1977 S-300 - Best option for S300D configuration?

Hi All -

I recently acquired a 1977 S-300 in pretty decent shape - but the pickups were changed out for a Seymour Duncan 59 in the Neck and a Seymour Duncan Seth Lover in the bridge. Both look pretty old so I think this may have been done some time ago.

I don't have any serious problems with these but still, I'd like to explore going to the Dimarzio PAF / Super Distortion setup that I understand was in the S300D in the early 80s. There's been a few articles and posts I've run across talking about how good that particular configuration sounds in this guitar and it has a classic look as well.

Anyone have a recommendation on the best way to do that? Is there anything with the wiring I need to know? About the only thing I know about this is originally these were mounted with 3 screws. I wondered how awful it would be to go ad hoc and buy something like this https://reverb.com/item/31555848-dimarzio-dp100-super-distortion-1980-s and buy a PAF later...

Or perhaps even buying a new Super Distortion (blasphemy?)

Thanks!

Hi

Heading says S-300 but text says S-100?

Anyway, you should check all the electronics, maybe other parts were changed when pickups were replaced.
GAD has a wiring diagram for the S300AD (same electronics as S300D), link posted by Ralf above.

BTW, not all S300Ds had 3-screw pickup mounts, some had 2 screws.

Good luck!

I’ve never seen a 2-screw mount on an S300 that was original. Got any pics?

I have seen a few with two-screw mount, including my own S300A-D.
But how to be sure they are all original? I know mine has had pickup replaced and later restored.

What convinced me was seeing pictures Guild themselves used in ads and catalogs.
