I'm just getting around to watching the new (and now fourth) visit to Austin City Limits that just aired on the 5th, and see John Stirratt playing what appears to be a partscaster P-Bass with a Dark Star in it.

I think that's a Lakland bass.

It is, and it does have a Dark Star in it. To quote John Stirratt from thread found here:

"I mainly play Fender Precisions, but Lakland built a bass for me that I just can’t put down,” claims John Stirratt. “It has a Hammon Dark Star pickup that’s a replica of the old Guild Starfire pickups. It has so much personality. With the tone all the way up, it’s very much like an old P-Bass, and with the tone rolled off, it’s super woofy—that distinctive Starfire sound. So it’s the most versatile bass that I’ve had.” John’s sunburst Lakland Bob Glaub Signature is fit with a narrower, Fender Jazz-style neck."

The thing does sound sweet. Just makes me want a pair in the DA even more.

yup i've been a big wilco fan since 2005 when I saw them in buffalo. he also has a black 1968 (i think) starfire with hagstrom bisonics in it, though that only really gets studio use as far as i know
