Well, I am taking the plunge and doing a full resto on this amp. I just took out the head, took off all the hardware, and stripped off the old tolex. YUCK! wood underneath is in good shape, but its still airing out. this amp has seem some stuff.

If you've found replacement tolex that matches the OEM Guild used, and two-tone grillecloth, I'd be very interested in getting some.

I am going to do a custom job. I'm going to go with tweed tolex and a burgundy grille cloth. For the control plate, I am prob gonna do a black or metallic background with gray pinstriping instead of the blue. I've ordered a speaker better suited for bass as well as some new tubes, new handles, new corner hardware, knobs, and rubber feet. It wont look original but that's not what I am shooting for. it will still look nice. The old tolex was gross, and I am airing out the cab now.

I owned the Maverick Bass amp and a pair of Maverick amps for guitar. The 7591A tubes are great sound tubes for guitar. They have a great tone when pushed into saturation. I think a pair of 7591A tubes puts out around 25 W.

I had anticipated the Bass version to essentially be the same amp without Reverb and Trem. I expected the bass speaker to limit the high frequency response. However I discovered that the amp does roll off the upper frequencies. I didn't evaluate the schematics to see if the circuit had a change in the circuit parameters but I would expect there are some changes in the input and preamp stages of the amp.

I didn't hold onto the Maverick Bass amp so I can't reevaluate my earlier experience. So as a practice Bass amp it was fine for low power practicing.
