At least it was interesting to me! My "new" Sadowsky has a nitro finish, not sure if that matters. But I have taken photos and examined the guitar at length since I bought it. However, while playing it yesterday, I happened to check it out for the first time in full sunlight, and the finish in the mahogany neck and headstock simply seem to disappear in the sunlight. Very nice grain, etc, on the back of the neck, but what was cool is that I noticed the serial number of the back of the headstock for the first time! In any other light, the black finish is all you see, with maybe some grain showing through. But in the sunlight it looks like it's a natural finish!

Is there an easy explanation for this that I am missing? I've never seen such a big difference although I have not had many guitars that had a "painted" finish on the neck.

Huge difference there, cool! My emerald green Blues 90 photographs the same. In regular ambient light, it looks really dark green with no detail, but in full sun (a photo tip from GAD), the green goes from dark to "emerald" and you can clearly see the flame maple top.

Perhaps the natural sunlight was just much brighter? Or, the difference in color temperature of the artificial lights vs sunlight: many artificial light sources are strongest in the red, orange, and yellow portion of the spectrum (2200-3200 K), while natural sunlight has much more blue (5500-6000 K)...
