How many times have you heard someone say "How did that get past final inspection?"

Doesn't matter at that point; you can't inspect quality into a product.

I'm not doubting your affection of your Collings guitar. I'm just saying I would like to A B it to a lesser example of a Martin, of lesser value and even a Martin is not cheap.

Oh no Ralph, compare them all I say. I hope you get the opportunity to compare. In fact, I did a U turn down in South Texas one time and drove about 40 miles out of the way to make an offer on one of the better guitars I've ever played. I'd made a stop by "Hill Country" the day prior with Scratch. I'd In the end, Hill Country Guitars and I were a couple of hundred dollars apart, and I passed.......I still regret it. It happened to be a Custom D28 with an Adi top and forward shifted pre-war bracing. That was probably 8 years ago, and on the way home, my wife bought a little pig that holds a plant she still keeps in the flower bed......she named the pig "Marty" because I was so dejected for the rest of the ride home.

Several years ago, I was at a music shop that had about 10 Collings guitars and about the same amount of Martin guitars.
The owner was very friendly and encouraged me to play as many guitars as I wanted to.

My go to guitar is a Martin D-35 and I absolutely love it.
I played almost all of the Collings guitars and was very impressed with them, however with my ear searching for that "Martin" sound,
none of them won me over.

Several of my Bluegrass Buddies play Collings guitars and they sound great.
If I could justify the cost and had the need, I would love to add a Collings to my collection.
However, I doubt that it would ever replace my Martin.
