So I had a real bad day to day and as I'm leaving the office after a 4 hr drive out of town, I stop at a very popular mom and pop music store that I used to visit everytime I would go to this particular city. This store always had Huss and Dalton guitars and usually had some Guilds. Well I walk in today and now they are a Larivee dealer and although I prefer Huss and Dalton and Guilds, I like Larivees and they have one beautiful 4k dollar jumbo rosewood model. I ask if it's cool to play it and the young college kid says sure (when they had Huss and Daltons you literally had to be supervised when playing them) so I take it down and have a seat. The kid asked if I would like to plug into an amp and I say sure. I NEVER play through an amp. I've bought two amps in my life other than my old Matrix gigging equipment. So the kid plugs me into and amp and I LOVE the sound coming out but can recognize that it's the amp. not the guitar that Im in love with. I say "wow, I love how this amp." I ask how much it is and he says "uh 70 bucks." I said "wow why does it sound so good." He said idk its a cheap amp from the 80's I think, it didn't work but I just had to re-soder two wires together. I asked if he could give me a cheaper guitar and he gives me this crappy composite/resin type guitar that was awful and the amp still made it sound pretty good.
Now I know almost nothing about amps and I said for that price F-it, I'll buy it because I'm a sound guy and it sounded amazing. Like a John Mayer two rock slow dancing sound, super choppy and had great reverb. When I walk it up he says, oops, it's actually 59 bucks but since youre buying some cleartone strings, I'll give it to you for 55. Ii buy the amp and the strings and head out. I get home and look it up. It's an Epiphone Regent 30 Acoustic Amp. It goes from 299-500 depending on where you look.
