Friends,
In anticipation of some gigging, added an L.R. Baggs pickup and new bridge pins to my beloved D6 today.
(Aside. Luthier I bought it from still thinks this is one of the best sounding guitars he's ever had. He plays a Suzuki of all things, and even better he found this in the town dump and restored it. He sold his 1940's vintage Martin D-28 cause this one sounded better, and he did not have to worry about what might happen to it! Go figure.)
Anyway to get back to the point here. The new bridge pins are Graph Tech TUSQ. I am not really sure this was the right thing to do. The sound is noticeably different in a way I can't quite explain - perhaps more "brilliance" is the right word. If you have switched from "plastic" to TUSQ I guess you'll know what I mean.
So advice time - are the TUSQ pins the way to go and I will get used to and like the added "volume, sustain and brilliance" (as advertised) - or in your considered opinion are there better pins (i.e. the old ones) to put on my Guild. And no, I do not want to blow $150 on pins - so keep this in mind. Cheers.
