I don't know about black snakes they're non-venomous but I don't know their personalities.... My friend Jason just found a snake in Texas.... he posted it and I was like, "Awwww, it's a ribbon snake... they're really nice and calm...." He just took a photo of it but I collected one in my youth and he was really nice. I kept him for about two weeks and kept him warm and fed.... and then I just let him go. The GOOD snakes.... Yeah??
I just finished T.C. Boyle's Blue Skies.

"Denied a dog, a baby, and even a faithful fiancé, Cat suddenly craves a snake: a glistening, writhing creature that can be worn like “jewelry, living jewelry” to match her black jeans."

You don't want to read it. I, however, loved it. 😁

My girlfriend and I had two cats when we lived in western MA, in a safe enough area that we felt OK letting them go outside for a couple hours each day.

One afternoon I opened the door to one of our cats, who sauntered in and dropped a live garter snake on the floor, and stood over it looking proud as it wriggled under the refrigerator. The other cat, who was home at the time, watched in fascinaton. (It took a few days but we managed to catch the snake and return him to the wild.)

A few days later I opened the door to our second cat who came in and dropped an earthworm on the floor, standing over it every bit as proud.

One of his favorite places to go do his secret cat things. I usually have it blocked off but the Pelican case I use for that is still in the garage waiting to be unpacked from the eclipse.

We believe he is a Lynx Point Siamese. He’s very friendly, very chatty, and needs constant attention when he wants it or he becomes a colossal PITA. I did train him to sit for a treat, so that’s fun.

In the old house he caught many mice so I think he’s constantly on the hunt looking for more but so far not a one in this jouse. He’s a champion bug hunter, though.

Yeah,

Don't leave dresser drawers open. I have several pix of my cats lounging on my sweaters. Wife say that'll teach me.
Once spent several hours searching the house and the neighborhood for one of our cats (they're all indoor cats) only to find that she had climbed into a dresser drawer that my wife shut without noticing her. She did meow loudly when she woke and wanted to get out!
