Re: Very rudimentary S-100 owners roster

That's the Steve B's S-100! I bugged them a few times for pics, then gave up a while ago, mainly because of the price. Nice looking...digging the walnut. They should have taken off another $200 for the upside down TRC though.

I tried for a price reduction on the TRC, but Stevie correctly calculated that screwdrivers don't cost $200. He was pretty decent about negotiating, and while I overpaid a bit, after seeing what was out there, I'm glad I overpaid for this one because the guitar and the case are in very good condition. I definitely like the walnut finish more than I thought I would.

Yea, it definitely looks like it is in good shape, although more pictures would help...*ahem**ahem*. And I'm with you on the walnut...it's very purty.

Horrus lists a 1975 S-100C in his sig. I remember that because he was going on tour as a bassist and was looking for a JS bass. Don't recall that he succeeded, though, but it's hard to talk about a JS or Starfire bass around here without me sticking my nose into things
Yes, I have a carved S-100. Best guitar I have ever played. Will never sell, ever.

I was able to find a JS bass for that tour last year. Did the tour with it and then sold it. I'm just not really a bassist.

I had an S-100 Deluxe for several years. Also a fantastic guitar. Sold it for financial reasons.

I own a 1969 Gibson SG Custom (3-pickup, Vibrola). I've had it for 25 years now. Every S-100 I've ever played is superior to it in every way.

Buy an S-100. You will not regret it.

Okay, fine. If no one will donate to a worthy cause (me), I'll just have get on the list myself. Qvart and others told me to go vintage, and so I did. Mark me down for a '73 S-100 in walnut.

Man, that thing looks brand new compared to my '71:

Good one!

I also have two 60's refinished/project Polaras. One is a early model with asymetric head 3 + 3 tuners and mini chrome soap bar SC pups with independent control of Vol and Tone for each PUP and the other is a later model "special" that has the reversed F-head, 6 inline tuners with Mickey Mouse SC Pups and the Thunderbirdish single selector switch with Master Vol & Master Tone for each selection. M

M, would love to see some pics of those 60s Polaras. I had one of those on my radar, just haven't found one.

You can add me to a list of S100 owners. I've had one since 1974. All original and in fairly good shape. Here it is with my Heritage 157. And I've thrown in a picture from 75. Notice the amp behind me. Still have that, although right now its in need of rebuild. Still haven't gotten to that project yet.

From the pictures I see there was more than one headstock version.

As far as I know, the shape stayed the same...the only difference would be the early 70s (until 72 maybe?) with the chesterfield logo having the lines. Other than that, I believe they are all the same, but I could be wrong.

Re: Very rudimentary S-100 owners roster

I don't recall seeing any different headstock shape, but the S-200 that one of our newbies just bought had the G shield headstock inlay. The phase switches were added in, I believe 1972 and were standard in 1973, but I don't believe the body shape or headstock shape changed after they were redesigned in 1970. Now the pre-1970 S-100 Polaras had different headstock shapes. Maybe that's what you were thinking of.

Re: Very rudimentary S-100 owners roster

Well, from the photos in this post, it appears that yours has the narrow Chesterfield headstock, like a Bluesbird and others, while Talisman's has the somewhat wider Chesterfield headstock.

Yea, the Chesterfield logo with the lines has a slightly wider waist to it, but that's all. There's the early logo with the lines and the later one without...that's the only diff.

Yo... mark my 'vintage with cool mods' as a '71... 10-Q.

I want another S-100 but I'd want it to be of the same era... early 70s. Maybe I'll be cool one day yet!

I'm sure the bouncer will give you a pass through the ropes due to all that kick arse metal work.

Updated through Treem's recently acquired '97 reissue. The self-proclaimed "cool kids" who own three S-100s are highlighted in gold.
