New Member w/ S-300AD and Nightbird

Hello all,
I stumbled upon this site a couple of weeks ago and would like to share with you my guilds.

My #1 is a '78 S-300AD, I've toured and gigged with this for 6 years. Recently, I replaced the Dimarzios with Seymour Duncan Antiquities. Unfortunately, the owner before me had a picking technique that eroded the plastic and fabric tape that protected the windings on the neck pu. I took me 6 years, but I broke the windings and decided it was time for a change. I am loving the Antiquities and do not look back- an improvement IMO.

#2 80's blue Nightbird. Don't know much about it, picked it up from a pawn shop about 12 years ago in CO. Great player, seems to be more of a entry level nightbird, very basic. When I got the guitar, I replaced the original pu's w/ super distortions. If anyone knows more about this guitar, I would like to hear about it and value???? Serial #LC000001

Hello thedrone,

Welcome! The blue Nightbird that you have is a Nightbird Deluxe from 1990. This is something Guild tried with leftover pieces from regular Nightbirds and hardware they had laying around from discontinued models, just to see if there was a market for it.
They are very unlike Nightbirds since they don't have the chambered body; or I should say the ones I've seen so far didn't have the chambered body. They were all a little bit different.
Since you looked at the inside of the guitar when you had the backplate off, you could tell us if your guitar is like I described. I'm curious to know!
They are very good basic guitars but because of the body design they are more Les Paul-ish than an eighties Nightbird would be. Very limited production during 1990 and 1991.
Really cool example of typical Guild policy. Never waste good materials!

Can you show us a photo of the back cavity?

Nice guitars you have there, thedrone. Welcome to the show. Isn't it great to have the man in our midst who literally wrote the book about Guild and its fabulous guitars to weigh in on the history of the guitars. A tip of the hat again to you Hans for all your wisdom.

Thank you all. Hans, I am in the middle of moving, but will post a pic of the back cavity as soon as I have a chance. I am pretty sure the body is made from Poplar and the neck is mahog. No sound chambers for sure.

Here is a clip of the S-300AD in action last Halloween! This is with the stock DiMarzios, into a Metroamp JTM-45, I use a Fulltone OCD V2 for boost during the solos.
