So, last month I took the plunge and joined this on-line school. The key to it are the "video exchanges", where you send in a video of a lesson (or any playing you want) and the teacher replies. What happens is that there ends up being this huge library of exchanges, where you see other students, and the reply of the instructor, for numerous lessons.

In my case, I joined the "Rock Guitar" school taught by Paul Gilbert - guitarist for the band Mr. Big, solo artist, and well known teacher. There are video lessons by him all over youtube, although not from this "proprietary" school - I'm assuming it is why he's doing this, he has been known for his lessons for many years. He is very entertaining, and the lessons are really well done. He's famous for being a "shredder", but that's not necessarily what the lessons are about. They start off very basic - maybe if I ever make to the "Advanced" lessons, I'll shred... :peaceful:

There are lessons for just about every instrument, and numerous styles, too - 10 different variations for guitar alone. I can't comment about the other "schools", only the Rock guitar. I'm enjoying it!

Please let use know how it works out. I'm taking lessons, and we focus most on Jazz stuff, but we do blues and some rock stuff. ( ex: another student wants me to join in on Edgar Winters "Free Ride" with him. ) Learning rock stuff would be a lot of fun, if it's taught well.
