My first post I think.

I was fortunate enough to find this sweet little amp locally for the grand price of $150 Canadian. I cleaned it up inside and out and had it recapped.

I am now pretty amazed at how good this thing sounds, and I have a few nice old Fender amps to compare it to. Very Fender tweedy-like, with the interactive controls and all.

My question is if these transformers look original. No reason the think that they aren't but figured I could find out for sure here.

Thanks!

Wayne

Hi Wayne! Pics have to be hosted elsewhere. A lot of us use imgur, but opening a free wordpress account seems easier to work with. Looking forward to pics!

Guild didn't use Magnavox as a transformer supplier. My guess is the original power transformer had to be replaced at some point, and they used whatever was handy. Should be fine though. You can use oven cleaner to get the paint off the old blue tolex.

That's what I was wondering about. What exactly, would the correct power transformer be? Any idea who made the output transformer?

The tolex is original and not painted. It could be the lighting and the fact that I just cleaned it up that makes the color look off.

Any idea who made the OT? Yes, I added the 3 prong.

Guild used a lot of Schumacher transformers just like Fender amps, but the photo in yours stamped "OT-235" was possibly made by Mallory, who is more known for capacitors.

that 66-J is looking mighty creamy! nice score!

Thanks... I am really pleasantly surprised at how good it sounds, especially with my '62 strat.

Guild also used a lot of Todd transformers, not sure of the timeframe on that, though. I am not surprised that it sounds good with the strat, the Franzes that Guild used are extremely bright. It's the pickup what the amp was designed around, so it figures.

Really? Thant's interesting. It sounds great with other guitars too, and with those interactive controls I don't have any problem making it sound darker. But when I plug the strat in, it is fantastic... full round tone.
