Rockabilly X 160

Yes, the Fender Frontline catalog from 2002 (and a page of specs printed off of the Fender website in 2002) says 16" x 3." But p. 180 on the 2001 Frontline catalog says 16 1/4" x 3 1/2" (close, but no cigar).

Hello Jake,

During my research I've learned that you should not take catalog specs too serious. They're not always that accurate, often outdated and sometimes completely wrong. Guild is not the only offender in the guitar industry, but depending on the period they can be one of the worst.
Also by looking at actual guitars you may find differences between models of the same type, even within the same time period.
Of course those differences are usually within limits. But 1/8 of an inch difference in the width of a body is nothing out of the ordinary. The biggest differences you will find in the depth of the bodies; these can be dramatic.

In the case of the Westerly and Corona made Rockabilly models the big differences in size were caused by the new jigs, mo(u)lds and collars that were fabricated after the move.
It's not like they decided to make a different instrument but if you move a production facility from one place to another and start up an entirely new production line, you're bound to find some differences in the final product.

Hi,
Here's a pic of my new Ebay purchase - orange Corona model. There's a bit of flame to it that doesn't show up in the picture. With this finish it's somewhat reminicent of the early 60's Gretsch 6120's but without that hokey big "G" brand. I like the sound of the pickups, not as trebly as I expected. My only other single coil guitars are Fenders.

Thanks guys, with this one thread I found a bunch of info I could not before and dealers could not tell me. I just wish they would manufacture the electric side of Guild again, including the impossible to find models like this one.

Hi Gang,

I need clarification on the construction of the late model X-160. I have owned in the past a X170 and X170T. I really liked the thinner body of the 170 series and the bridge post design to keep the sound tight and less prone to feedback. Is the X160 with DeArmond 2000 pup's build identically to the X170's? That is does the X160 have the thinner body and bridge post. Also, given the X170 has humbucker and the X160 the DeA single coils is the neck and fret board at the same height above the body?

matsickma, you're talking about the "Rockabilly" model correct? Though I've not had one in hand, it's my understanding that it's the same body as the X-150's, which I do own. My Savoy is a full depth hollow body with no bridge post. Trying to remember....dhdfoster used to have one & I seem to remember him mentioning a bridge post, but it may have been one of his other Guilds.

Yes. I am talking about the Rockabily. It looks like Jake the Loafer has one of each along with a X180. Mayby he'll pick up on this thread.

I considered buying a X-180 a few months ago but I was told it did not have the bridge post so changed my mind.

8) JTL here. I saw this & yes, same guitar as the X-150 Savoy. Full deep hollow w/o soundpost. I like mine but it gets played rare like some of the others. I had it out about 2months ago. It will feedback some but you can control that IMO. I also like my x-170T w/ the thinner body. My X-180 is full hollow I believe & a little more deep then the X-170. Hell, I like them all & want more. :D I want a Westerly Ice Blue one. Know that's Rock A Billy.

The Rockabilly X160 is wider than the X170 - either 1/2" or 1".

If you want to know for sure, just ask - I have a spec sheet on the X160 and a real live X170 which I'll measure.

This is likely a question for Hans but any help is appreciated. What year did the Rockabilly change from Westerly to Corona? Did the Serial Number code (i.e., Prefix letters) change with the move? If not what is the last Serial Number of the X160 Rockabilly made in Westerly?

Hello Mike,

The Westerly made X-160 Rockabilly shared the serial number prefix with the X-150(D) which was AK150###. The Corona made Rockabilly serial number prefix starts with CB000###.
