Hey West ... 100% to the mic thing. A few years ago, I got a pair of Neuman KM184zz because I had created my first 'solo' acoustic show. Playing my resonators through these mics was like maybe being in heaven. My problem is; I'm a foot stompin' jackass and the couple stages I used these on, didn't do me good. That forced me to go back to standing again ... just not with the resonators ( they both have Schatten Design transducers).
Well ... being a life-long stickler for premium quality sound, I waffled around, listening to the best of the best transducers offerings. After a long stretch, I settled on one LR Baggs for my new Martin D-35. It sat on a shelf in my studio room for maybe a year just so I could torment myself about drilling a hole to install the preamp. Finally, a few months ago, I went for it and did a nothing short of perfect install resulting in an even more perfect sound!
This made me immediately order another one to stuff into my my Gibson J-45 (Banner re-issue with Adi top). Again, no regrets!!
Finally, I bought a 3rd one for my Guild D-35 1974. Now ... somehow, I don't feel right about drilling and installing stuff into a beautiful sounding 50 year old guitar. I know it is just a cheapy or some call it a'student guitar' - I don't care. This baby has the attack and presence of a Marty D-28 all day long and me firmly tinks it will remain a 'sit-down' guitar with the Neuman brother twins!
