Can anyone confirm for me the year of a serial number in the 17000 range? I wasn't't given the exact number, only that it is in the 17000's. I'm guessing 1961, but I don't have Hans' book handy. Thanks for the help!

Update:

I am now the proud owner of a 1961 X-175 and a Thunder 1 amp. As promised here are some pics...

Yes, you were all correct! It was mostly single cutaway Starfires that Guild was concentrating on during that particular period. Is that what you're looking at? Just curious! Keep us posted!

It's actually an X-175B, which is a single cutaway. I was told it has been very well cared for and will post pics today.

Nice! They didn't do too many X-175Bs around that time. Took a quick look in my database and around that date they did a small batch of less than a dozen and those were all in the #17310-17320 range. Is it one of those?

17312! It is in my posession along with an all original and near mint Thunder 1 amp with the original cover. Pictures of all will follow shortly.

Hans, or anyone else...

Any ideas on a fair cost for this guitar and amp? I'm sure I got a good deal, but I am just curious. Thanks, and enjoy the pics!

If that Bigsby isn't factory, someone put it on there around the time it was bought - the philips screw in the arm is a giveway it's from the same era as the guitar - my bet is that it came on the guitar. Which makes the guitar even cooler! 8)

Pretty good Walter! There's always that chance that somebody added a Bigsby at a later date but in this case ............ we can be pretty sure what really happened!

Here's a partial scan from the Friday Sept. 29, 1961 page of the ledgers from 'final assembly:

If that's of interest to any of you at all, take a look at some of the other guitars they did on that day!
