Coincidentally to wisconsinred’s post, here is my recent Clist acquisition. A Christmas present to myself. She was almost mute with ancient strings when I picked her up in a parking lot meet-up. I took a chance, and with new strings, the tone is what I expected and hoped for – special. She is going to the luthier today, as I am picking up the repaired Corona D50. The action on the D35 is a tad high. The tuners seem to work well, but, interestingly, you can see in one of the pictures that one of the tuner screws is slot head, the others Phillips head. I am wondering whether I should just go ahead and have the tuners replaced with new Kluson 3 to a plate metal button nickel tuners, as long as she is in the shop anyway? The holes diameter and little screw positions would exactly match, no?
Happy New Year, Dave

Seems like a nice guitar........rusty strings can sometimes be a positive.

Case in point, I just purchased a vintage F-412, that not only was missing most of its' strings,
but the ones that were there were at least twenty years old. The guitar was unplayable, which meant that some folks might pass on it because of the lack of strings.

Instead of swapping out the tuners...I would try and keep those originals. If you do change them out for a set of Klusons, have the originals rebuilt and keep them safe.

Yes, Merry Christmas to me!

Now that I think about it, the very old strings were maybe a plus in me getting her after she sat on clist for some time. The luthier said it looked like the bridge had been shaved once, which kinda cuts against the grain of the sellers rap, so we shall await the verdict.

The original tuners of course look great and are much preferable to the kluson replacements. I did not even think about getting them rebuilt, and so did not ask the luthier about it. I suspect it might be cost-prohibitive. Googling did not yield any useful info. Perhaps you can share some further thoughts on this topic. Where would I even find such a service, if I may ask? Dave
