Hey y’all, new here.
Five years ago I bought a 1973 Guild D55 from Arthur’s music store in Indianapolis that was on consignment; didn’t really know what I had at the time. I ended up trading it for a Martin and never ever forgot about that 1973 guild D55.
Fast forward to a couple weeks ago I saw a Guild D55 on Craigslist 500 miles away, looked into the serial number just so happens this one is a 1972. Long story short i went for a drive and bought the guitar. The truss rod is maxed is what I was told and it needs a neck reset. With that being said still plays. Gruhns guitars here in Nashville is willing take it in the end of April so I’ll keep you posted on that one. Apparently the original owner left it tuned up in the case for most of its life.
This being a 72’ it’s the earliest D55 I’ve seen online. Looking around on reverb there’s only been less than one handful of 1970’s Guild D55’s that have sold that I can find.
I’m wondering if anyone knows about production numbers on these things while they were a special order. I’m also curious what it would of looked like in terms of the process to order one of these back in the day when they were custom order only. Which would of been pre 74’ I believe.
Anyone else here have a pre 74’ D55?
If anyone else knows anything about late 60’s early 70’s D55’s; that is the juicy stuff I am here for. Sorry if this information has already been reiterated. ( bought the guild book it’s on the way )
