I have my guitar from grammar school church choir. The serial number dates it 1973, toward the middle, 78754. I am not sure if pearwood or maple. Any way to find out? Is there a resale price difference between pearwood and maple?

The D-44 M (maple) should have been designated on the label. I would guess it's pearwood. Photos of the back and sides would be helpful.

Welcome to LTG.
Will get photos of back and sides. Is there any difference for resale pricing?

Thanks so much. Does the start of the cracking on back affect the value? Is this something easily repaired?

Repairing the back would be routine for a qualified luthier. Back repairs don't affect the sound of the guitar, so no worries there.

Cracks negatively impact value, though in a guitar this old, repaired cracks are not at all unusual. If they are professionally repaired, as previously pointed out, sound isn't affected. But any potential buyers will be looking for a discount (not sure if you want to sell) vs. an undamaged one. And some folks will simply not buy a guitar with cracks.

Depending on where this guitar lived during it's life she might be very dry and might need humification before any repair is done.

Stored inside original felt case, in cool / dry finished basement. Thankyou for the heads up.

Thanks so much. The person interested are asking about the “action” what does that mean? They are also asking if needs a “neck reset” which I am not familiar with. How would I be able to tell on these two points?
