Nice Pascal! I completely missed that thread initially and didn't know you bought that bass.

Thanks Ralf. Yeah I have officially become a carved addict.
By the way, Hans book page 160 calls it "JS Bass 2 - Carved" as official model name, not Jetstar.

Uh oh..... Fixed on youtube! We wouldn't want to give the impression we're not paying attention now would we?

Far be it from me to question Ralf quoting Hans, but...

For years I insisted that anyone who referred to the double cutaway JS introduced in 1970 as JetStar was wrong. I would even get self righteously indignant about it. Turns out I was wrong. Some of the 70 and 71 literature uses the JetStar name and there is even a picture floating around of a label that says "JetStar Bass II NB 83047 Long Scale" which is a 1974 label. So while I'll cringe I'm not going to tell someone who uses JetStar for a 1974 that they are wrong. This is documented somewhere on LTG but I just don't feel like searching for it at the moment.

Good points! But the main reason was that we also had discussed 6 string Jetstars recently. And Pascal had just called the bass a 1974 Jetstar, so I thought we should stick to the "official" naming.

The "Jet-Star bass" would have been this originally: http://www.vintageguitarandbass.com/gra ... arbass.jpg
1970 flyer/catalog page 7: http://www.vintageguitarandbass.com/gra ... ld70p7.jpg
1971 flyer/catalog page 7: http://www.vintageguitarandbass.com/gra ... ld71p7.jpg
Both already show the new name "JS Bass II".
In this below 1971 advertisement as well. Which does all not rule out that later labels might have shown "JetStar Bass II":

And here are two 1974 advertisements:

In this second 1974 link they say "JS Bass 2" vs. "JS Bass II" as before.
The 1975 catalog page 11 also shows "JS Bass 2" now : http://www.vintageguitarandbass.com/gra ... d75p11.jpg

My point was that Guild itself used the "JetStar" nomenclature irregularly as late as 1974 so while we should encourage the use of the JS terminology, it is not precisely correct to call that "official".

We have to remember that this is Guild. They also took what we could call a JS body, added B-302 PUs, pickguards and electronics to it and sold it as something circa 1977. Catalog nomenclature and specs were never a constraint
