I found a nice looking S-300 selling here in Europe for a pretty nice price (550€) in beautiful sunburst color. I only have photos because I'm too far away to pick it up myself. Do you think it's a decent buy?

I'd say, from what I know about the Euro-market which isn't much, that it's a pretty good buy. I'd say it's in nice shape and you don't see many in the sunburst finish. Looking at the current Euro->Dollar rate, I wouldn't think that's too much. I would, however, see if you can get a better picture of the headstock. Those appear to be some seriously oversized screws holding the truss-rod cover on (upside-down). Why don't people clean the guitar up before they take pictures? Without regard to the truss-rod cover situation, it's probably a pretty sweet buy.

Boy, I don't know... I used to have a really nice S300D. Played and sounded great - but I never could say I liked how it looked. It's the only Guild I've ever owned that I've sold (still have 5). Made a nice profit on it too - I can't say I regret the sale.

Maybe I'm shallow, but I've gotta like the way an instrument looks to make me want to pick it up and play it. That S300D never passed that test for me. But, if you like it, enjoy!

finally got ahold of a s300d of my own and love the look, feel, tone, and overall playability.

were guild knobs always factory standard on these?
i've seen lots of variation (top hats, speed knobs, etc...) safe to assume these are these all "modifications"/replacements?

Hello-

I'm a newbie, but have been a fan of S-300Ds since 1978.

I worked at a mom-n-pop music store, and I was able to get a Mahogany S-300D that had sat in the store for almost a year for cost ($385US, if I remember correctly). It was likely one of the first shipped.
It was my main guitar until it was stolen a few years later.

With the insurance money, I ordered a cherry, and then another mahogany, but neither were quite the same. Excellent guitars, but not equal to my first one. When children came along in the mid-'80s, both were sold.

I discovered eBay in 2001, and to my heart's delight located a mahogany S-300D. I hadn't even seen one since the late '80s. This one has been a keeper.

I will post a picture asap. Thanks for letting me tell my story.

Hey all, I am a newbie here and my first post. I also have a '79 S300A-D. It is my first guitar I ever bought and have had it since around 1980. All stock except for the pickguard and strap buttons. I have some strap locks on it (cant remember which brand  )

I would like to get an origional pickguard but cant seem to locate one. I had made the clear one back in '80 and lost the origional. Anywho...here are a few pics.

I really like the later style of the S300 without the pickguard.

If I recall correctly I thought I read that the S300 style guitar was one of the more popular solid bodies that Guild ever sold. Does anyone rembember hearing that?

Hey Uberthrall, I'm new here and a lefty. Just got wind of a lefty S300 on LTG and after looking at all these pictures, I may give it a home if I can get the price down.

Where in the Peoples Republic of Ohio are you located Volt? I'm east of the middle, the middle where decisions affecting us are made. I just send them money periodically so they can spend it on themselves.
