Well, after nearly 20 years of searching high and low for a replacement to the 1981 Candy Apple Red S-250 I sold in 1984, I am proud to report that the search is OVER!!! The guitar is on its way and should be in my hands Tuesday or Wednesday. By the way....if it shows on Tuesday it would be 26 year to the day from when I sold my S-250 (Sept 21, 1984)!! It looks like this deal was meant to be!

Originally, Thunderface posted the link (may/June timeframe) to the craigslist ad, but at the time the seller was looking for $2900!! After waiting things out, communicating with the seller often and not appearing too anxious, I was able to negotiate a price of $800 plus shipping. The guitar appears, at least from photos, to be in great shape. Also comes with original case (looks a little battle worn), hang tag and neck adjustment wrench.

To offset the cost of this purchase I may have to sell one of my D-46 Bld's (1985 s/n DL100927). If interested, please PM me for details.

I look forward to posting pics of my new "baby"!

Congratulations Tim! Looking forward to seeing some better photos than the ones on Craigslist.

It certainly pays to log certain guitars that people are looking for in your memory. The enabler in me kept kicking in every time I saw the price go down, and I kept feeding price alerts ... "it's down to $1,600. It's down to $1,400, it's down to $1,200." It's been a great and productive journey on this one, and congrats, TIm! :D Can't wait to see those photos.

(someone cue up "Reunited" by Peaches and Herb). :D

Well done Tim, congrats! I had noticed this one going down in price for quite some time... Glad it's finally coming home!

Congratulations! S250s are great!

Pictures, please! (which reminds me, I have to take a few more pictures and post myself).

We also seem to share a taste for Washburns. I have been looking for a Falcon for some time.

Beinhard,

Is your '81 S-250 an early four-knob version like mine and Tim's former and soon-to-be S-250s?

Oh my! Is that a walnut finish or just dark red?

More brown than red, but darker than my walnut S60-D. You can just barely see the wood grain through the finish.

Dude that is sexy as all get-out! Congrats! I know what it's like to endlessly search for the one you sold so many years ago, especially one that's hard to find.

Of course his experience won't be quite like yours unless he sells this one, then buys another, then sells that, then
buys another, usw.

You can't make an omelet without buying and selling some S300s... or something.

Still in a holding pattern and hope to have the guitar in a few days. Thanks for all of the well wishes! The S-250 I am getting is exactly like Thunderchunks, except that mine is Candy Apple Red.

Beinhard - Do you know if the knobs on your guitar are original?

I'll post pics after I get a chance to polish up my new acquisition, put some new strings on and take her for a test drive!

BTW - any suggestions on posting pics? I haven't done so in this forum, so any helpful hints are welcomed!

I hadn't noticed until you asked - I would have guessed Beinhard's would have come with speed knobs like Thunderface's and like my M-80. They could be original though.

There's a thread around here about posting pics. If the search function cooperates you should be able to find it easily.

In short, you have to host your pics on another website (I prefer Photobucket). Then copy and paste the URL (link) to the picture here in your post in between "IMG" brackets (which is one of the formatting options directly above the box where you type your post).

Or, if you use Photobucket, it will provide you with the complete text you need to link your photo including the IMG brackets at the beginning and the end. Copy and paste. Voila!

Good luck!

Easiest way is to join some free photo-sharing site like Photobucket or others. Then you upload your photos there, copy the direct link and, using the Img button, paste the link in between the symbols, so it looks like this:

You are not the first to ask that question.
I don't know, these are what was on when I bought the guitar last year.
At that time the knobs had no significance to me, so I never asked about them.
I can try to contact previous owner and see if he remembers anything.

Well, I got the guitar on Thursday and it is in good, but not great condition. Has a few nicks and bumps, but overall it is in pretty good shape. It needed a good going over (action was SUPER high, pots and selector switch could use replacing and a slight truss rod adjustment is needed), but after a few quick adjustments I was able to get all but the pots taken care of. I see a re-fret in the near future as well, as many of the first position frets have some noticable wear. That said, the fingerboard is absolutely prefect, with no wear.

The sound is much hotter than some of my other guitars and will take some fine tuning to get the right tone. Overall, I'm very happy with the deal as I had been regretting selling my S-250 for 20+ years. One other thing...this guitar feels a lot heavier than my original. Maybe Hans knows if these were made using different woods. My original would feedback at nearly every volume level, where this guitar seems to be much more stable in that respect.

Pics are going to follow soon! Thanks to all for the words of encouragement you've sent my way up to this point!
Tim
