Soooooo, the reason why I recently joined AGF and Let's Talk Guild is because about a month ago I went guitar shopping and when I mentioned I owned a Guild, the sales guy told me about a D-55 50th Anniversary Model that is in the basement of the store. I decided I needed to do some research on the guitar. Well, I played it two weeks ago. #10 of 50. Never sold. Still had plastic over the pick guard. The price he initially gave me was $3100.00. I really wanted to buy a jumbo, but this has me thinking differently. Thoughts?
I think a couple of the guys assume you're asking if the price is decent because you're considering potential resale value.
Kinda puts ya in a box, maybe you're looking for something else.
From what I remember from participating in a few discussions about these guitars, I think $3100 is right in the market for one of 'em that's actually from the limited edition but not #1Whether or not "the market" is a good a gauge of its true value is another question.
I CAN say unequivocally that Coronas don't get no respeck in the open market, and even around here there's some reservations about 'em. They got a black eye on their rep for a few different reasons, most of 'em not supported by the weight of evidence we've seen here ("finish problems" being the most frequently cited flaw).
I got a Corona, and I got a suspicion that over the next 10 years the "market" is gonna start valuing 'em on their genuine merits, in case that's the kind of feedback you're looking for.
Beyond that I agree with those who identify the most important question: "Do you actually like the guitar?"
Is there a reason you started off thinking you wanted a jumbo but now are considering switching to a dread?
Are you thinkning about just trying it for a while to see if you bond with it?
Are you one of those guys who seem to be comfortable with owning a guitar for a while and then moving it on without worrying about resale value? (it helps a LOT to be that way if you want to practice serial cohabitation with several different Guilds).
One thing I can pretty much guarantee is that if you like it now you'll probably love it after a couple of years.
All 3 of mine improved with age, (see my sig), even my Corona D40, although it was the slowest of the bunch .
