I'd posted an observation regarding a 2003, 50th Anniversary D55 that's up for auction, saying that Fenders/Guilds selection to herald that Guild had been producing guitars for fifty years, seemed to be almost an afterthought. I imagine it's a very nice Brazilian, D-55....but you would have thought that the Guys at Fender, who have some experience with commemorative and signature Strats and 'Teles, could have done better. BTW, the guitar was going for over $5k, for those of you who need to add another rare one to your roster of interesting Guilds.

Maybe they could take a page from Martin's book, who it appears will design a special signature or commemorative edition guitar, every three weeks, for almost anyone.....even those who never played Martin's professionally. They even made a Signature D28...for Click&Clack, the CAR TALK Guys on NPR.....and they were asking $6500, ouch, retail for it. CF the IV knows the value and the profit of a special guitar.

Guild couldn't ask for a more passionate group of guitar owners than this forum and maybe, just maybe someone at New Hartford or Scottsdale is listening. How do you think Guild should celebrate Sixty years of production? My initial suggestion was an ornate (something really over the top...not just some subtle inlay on the neck) F-612. Eighteen inch lower bout... Imperial Grovers, Rosewood and Abalone multi-ply binding.something along the lines of a JF-100C, (a personal favorite) considering that Guild makes the best production 12 String in Christiandom and beyond would be one of my choices. Suggestions? What would make you spend your hard earned cash?

I really doubt that I could ever afford a guitar like that but I'd like to see something along the lines of a F612. John Denver would yoddle in his grave.

Me too; it would be a great tip of the hat to JD. If they could keep the price out of the stratosphere by using EIR, I might even consider buying one.

Hmmmm.......that's +3 for the the Mother of All Guild 12vers. Yes, I think JD would be pleased.

I played one of those Car Talk Martins at Elderly a while back = the fret markers were inlays of beat up car parts like mufflers and radiators, and the pick guard was engraved with the after-show credits. To quote Click & Clack: "Bud Tugly."

I do like their Arab Elvis impersonator though - Amaal Shukup

IMHO Martin makes too many special models and has devalued them by doing so.

limited edition of 3 4 5 6 guitars in the quantities that they make them seems ridiculous to me.

a customer once called and asked me for advice , he bought a jimmy buffet model in the box new never played a few years after the issue the shop wanted to get rid of it. he wondered if it would go up in value. he kept it in the case in the box and never played it

I really could not answer his question except that a fan would probably always want one but at what cost is anyone's guess

What would make me buy a new Guild special anniverary whizz-bang guitar? For them to make one worth buying probably. I haven't seen any of the new Hartford Guilds, but the GAD! line is just really substandard to me - along the lines of the Madeira. After the debaucle of moving from Westerly to Corona to Tacoma - destroying that fine and plant in the process - and then to Hartford has left me cold on the Fender/Guilds. If nothing other than a public relations nightmare, it has alienated so many long-standing Guild devotees that one would think Fender would put some effort in rethinking to win back the die-hards and return the name to some aspect of its former glory.

I'm not one for glitz and inlay - never have been. I'd just settle for something akin to the quality of my 1975 G-37 or my 1974 D-25. Peace and calm and long-lasting string clarity to all! dbs

I'm still thinking warm and fuzzy thoughts of a 60th anniversary limited edition/reissue of the 612. Why not dedicate it to the memory of John Denver?

I find it interesting that it took Martin 171 years for their first million guitars, yet they are making plans now for the 1,500,000 Martin to be assembled soon. No wonder they have to make so many different special models.

Well it may not come as much of a shock, but my ideal 60th Anniversary would definately be a D100 remake.

Having given this a bit more thought....if the Powers in Scottsdale really wanted to capitalize on sixty-years of Guilds....what they might do is
pick one model from each decade from the Fifties through the present and
produce six special guitars representing the best of those years.

I'd like to see the 60th Anniversary Guild Guitar be several F-612's and that there be one in Maple (Spruce Top), one in Mahogany (Mahogany Top) and one in Rosewood (Spruce Top).
