There is a '73 S-90 on consignment at Winter Sound Co. in Gloucester Point, Va. If anyone's interested, the phone number is: 804-642-6434. They're asking $600 for it.

It's fate, BP. Fate, I tell you. With this one and your '73 S-100, you'd be two-thirds of the way to your own "Class of '73." You would just need an S-50 to complete the S-series offerings for 1973. :D And yes, those are indeed HB-1s. It's just like a no-frills S-100 without all the enhanced features. I forgot to ask if it comes with a case. Doh!

Now that's some serious teasing right there......
I sure am going to check it out and it might very well be coming back on the plane with me.

Here's hoping that it does. And it's not teasing, its encouraging. Or enabling, if you buy it.

My advice is: don't assume that you will love an S-90 just because you love S-100s.

After playing a couple of different S-90s over the years, it's been my experience that they are a pretty big step down from an S-100. In fact I honestly didn't care for either of the ones I played.

I imagine it had a lot to do with being spoiled by my S-100, though.

Thanks for the heads up Horuss!
And that's the beauty of a perfect timing on this one: I get to touch it before deciding what to do about it.
Obviously what attracts me about it are the original HB1's, but if the rest of the guitar doesn't talk to me, I won't pay $600 for two pick ups....

Besides, I think you're running out of characters in your sig line.

C'mon man! Don't be mean like that..... It's been almost two months since the last one (000 MMV)
Plus, I have already contemplated reducing my sig to Guild only for space purposes.
That said, no real pressure on that one. I'll be there, so I couldn't live with myself if I wasn't going to check it out, but I must admit in all fairness, it's not as sexy as the S-100.....

I've gotten to that point too, Pascal. All the non=Guilds are out of my sig, as we really only care about Guilds here anyway.

I also feel no pressure to buy any new (to me) ones. The pressure's more the other way these days.

Or, in lieu of a list, you could make a photo to click on under your signature, like I have ... (click on photo below)

Very cool... How did you manage to upload an expandable pic format like that? (Yes, I'm old.) :?

Make a small picture, host it somewhere, link it in your signature with IMG tags. Then enclose all of that with a URL link to a bigger version of the pic.

And all this time I thought English was your first language.....
I'll try to give it some practice, but it's gonna have to wait until I get a decent PC. I'm giving up on the one I'm using now, I think it's dead. I've had problems with it for a long time, where in the middle of a skype call for instance, and with a couple browsers open, it will crash. Mouse frozen, with no other option than pushing the power button to shut it down.
I reformatted a couple of times already, it works fine afterward but still crashes now and then, and now it just doesn't want to download any more. It takes about 30mns to download a youtube clip! The strange part is it browses fine, but for some reason doesn't want to download from the Internet.
I ran all kinds of adware scans to clean up, I thought about another reformatting, but since it's about 7 or 8 years old, I'm thinking about getting a new one with a more recent OS and start clean.....
I'll check the black Friday deals online.

S-90 update: Went to Winter Sounds today, first off, a fun fact: turns out the owner is my wife's sister (where we're staying) neighbor! How's that for a small world?
Then I saw it. The guitar is in decent shape, worst part is those belt buckle carvings in the back. I wouldn't mind a carved, but not like this one....
So it's definitely a player, sounds good as I knew it would, I didn't care for the set up (or lack thereof) but that could have been arranged, but the most pertinent reflection I had about it, was that if I brought it home and placed it next to my S-100, I would probably never touch it. As Horuss pointed out, it IS a step down. So it is still at the store awaiting a good home.
Side note: They also carried a New Hartford D-55 priced at $1850.00, and a mint X-150 at $1250.00 that I liked....
Pretty nice inventory I thought for a hole in the wall like Gloucester!

Exactly. That's why I sold mine. But they are still awesome.

No doubt.
And had I not been the lucky owner of an S-100 from the best vintage  I would most certainly have bought it.
