Got my BT-258E baritone set up and the wonky 8th string bridge pin un-wonked (it wouldn't sit properly) and was going to spend time getting to know it better when I wound up in the hospital just before Christmas, internal bleeding causing an extremely low hemoglobin count. Turned out to be a tear in my colon where it was resected after a colectomy in June. Anyhow, finally spent some time with it, and have a few observations. First, I did not like the unwound F# second string, so replaced it with a .022 wound string from my miscellaneous string drawer, feels and sounds better to me. I'll probably experiment with a heavier 1st string "B" as well, maybe at least a .017 instead of the .016 and may look for a .072 to replace the .070 on the 8th string. I guess that means putting together a custom set from singles, or at least getting the different gauges and putting the ones from the set in my miscellaneous string drawer.
On a different note, as I've gotten older and had some health issues, my voice range has changed, notes that I could hit, both high and low, have gone the way of the dodo. So, I've been playing a few songs on the bari, takes a little getting used to, I guess sort of vocal equivalent to muscle memory. Too bad I can't put a capo on my vocal cords!
