This is my first post to this forum and I picked up a 94 DV52-NT-HG from a pawn shop for $500 out the door. I ran across this guitar as I was looking for some computer tools that were stolen from my car being burglerized. I saw the Guild hanging on the wall with some other guitars and saw it was USA made. Since I had taken up the guitar after not playing for many years I had bought an Alvarez (made in China) to start learning again. So I sat down with the DV and strummed a few chords and it was like magic. The Guild was so much more than anything I had ever played before. It's like Mike Meyers used to say on the SNL show he did as a jewish woman "it's like butter". The highs, mids and bass all just blended together. Played a little Tom Petty and I was in love. So I wrote down the Model & SN and checked it out on the Guild web site and even called Guild out in AZ. Talked to their hepldesk people and found out all I could about the DV52. Went back with the cash and brought her home after a stop at my favorite luthier to give her a good check up, (he's a Guild owner also) and haven't stopped playing it since and haven't even looked at the Alvarez. Guess I got the FEVER. Will post pics later. Glad my luthier told me about this forum. slow944s.

Welcome here Slow (is there such a thing as a slow 944S?), and it sounds like you might have gotten a great buy on that DV52. I think the HG means "high gloss" right? They're GREAT guitars, and I'd have one too, but I already have a D50. Or will again when it comes back from Nashville!

And by all means, post pics!

Thanks for the warm welcome. I also noticed that the guitar has a Fishman pickup installed. Did these come from the factory with it installed or was it something to be done at a guitar shop. I can't see any model numbers but it has 2 switches on it, I'm guessing one for volumn and the other for balance, it also has a third switch that's a 2 position switch. The way the Fishman is mounted it moves back and forth and is silver in color. I know not a lot of help from a computer guy.

Where is this pawn shop? I think they're letting the gun guy price the guitars.
Congratulations on a great deal! I found my DV52 NT HG in a pawn shop as well but not at a price like yours.

HaHa! I too discovered Guild when looking to replace stolen property, in my case it was a Fender acoustic. Some people just born lucky I guess! I was a big fan of first gen RX-7's for 20 years too. Cool cars and cool guitars...they just seem to have a lot in common... it ain't how fast you get up to speed, it's how it handles once you're there, right?
Welcome!

The pawnshop wanted a lot more than what I paid, but settled for $500 after I pointed out a couple of problems with the guitar that I guess he didn't know or didn't want to mention during the bartering. That's when he said my best deal is $500 out the door and I went home smiling. :D The reason I added slow to my handle was due to the 944S not being Turbocharged. Also my favorite luthier said the crack in the top was superficial and didn't go thru, and the damage to the finish was not a problem either. Any ideas about the fishman pickup as to when it might have been installed or did it come from the factory with it? Thanks again for the BIG WELCOME and I am setting up a photobucket account to add photos. slow944s

Come to think of it, mine came from a pawn shop, but I bought it sight unseen because it was on ebay in another state! I'd never heard of the DV-52, but after only a little bit of research I pushed the BIN button before someone else beat me to it! :D

Man, that is a steal! Great find & congratulations on your wonderful bargain purchase.

Love to hear pawn shop finds like this can still exist... it's far more rare than it used to be.

You got lucky, babe!

After playing for about a week now unplugged, I finally decided to plug her into my Line6 Spider 3 amp. Sounded ok, nothing special, the Fishman pickup worked perfectly. there must be 2 mics under the bridge as there ar 2 wires going from the fishman back to the bridge. Anyway after a little more Tom Petty's Free Fallin, I unplugged from the amp and as I laid the guitar on my desk the way the desklamp hit the top I could see all these cracks on the top, kind of look like age cracks on old tile. Was this caused from the amp or do I have other problems?.........slow944s

Welcome and congrats on the DV-52.

The cracks you see are in the lacquer finish. Very common in older guitars. Sometimes they are called cold checks because subjecting the guitar to cold temperatures can cause the lacquer to crack like that. Lacquer can continue to shrink for years after it is applied. Subjecting it to cold can cause it to shrink so quickly that it cracks.

The cracks can also be caused by taking a cold guitar into warm surroundings. As the wood warms and expands, the lacquer cracks.

Definitely not caused by playing through the amp. Nothing to worry about.
They are just a cosmetic issue.
