Don't ask me how I do this, but serendipity happens, I guess.
In this case, I find myself with two new (old) Guild D4s....one mint, the other in great shape.

Keep an eye on the FS/FT section because one might become available on a forum near you!

I can see why you said you like the '93 better,,,, even though the '00 is mint. 8)

Both are beautiful but the '93 is the one I'd asked to the dance.

Joe, what are the specs of the finish? They have nitro gloss? If so, is the tinting of the '93 mainly due to a good suntan?

The Jan 1994 price list shows: "Natural Satin Lacquer Finish".
The Jan 2001 price list shows: "Natural Satin Finish", but I think also lacquer.

I always had a thing for older women, but now....they're really old!

Anyway, back to the two Guilds.
I do believe what Ralf pointed out as far as the finishes go.
The '93 has that nitro sheen (and even a little finish checking) and the '00 feels like dry wood; i.e., no finish of any kind. I wouldn't call it hand-rubbed because there's nothing there. *I'm still baffled at how spotless this guitar is.
The '93 also feels a bit heavier than the '00.

I feel an A/B coming on, and it's raining today, so.....

Man, nice pair Joe. Seems like that would be like deciding which child to save from drowning. Well, maybe not quite, but still...

Are they both about the same as far as saddle height, fret wear, etc? If you keep the older one, will you keep the newer case for it?

The '00 really appears to have come to me virtually UNplayed, while the '93 HAS been played but not to excess.
Both cases are 'new' or as 'new' as can be. The '00 came with the OHSC while the '93 came in a decent off-brand case, so whoever stays gets the Guild case, unless.... 8)

Congrats Joe  Isn't the one on the left called a True American ? The head stock has the variation in the color . Anyway, how would you compare the sound to your , now gone, D25 ?

Not a True American, just a plain old Westerly D4 from Rhode Island. The TRC usually had True American inscribed on it, if it were so designated (that's my understanding of the TAs).

I don't know that I'll find a sound that compares with the old D25....that now resides in Ohio. :( :D
How are ya, Doc?

A quick review of Guild Gallery #1 (Winter '97-98)shows a special side bar for: "NEW TRUE AMERICAN": D4 Gloss
Description notes that a topcoat of lacquer's applied over the handrubbed satin finish.
"The D4G fills the void between the traditional nitrocellulose high gloss-finished D25 and the hand-rubbed D4"
Another quote from that same catalog about DCE1's & DCE5's:
"The True Americans (tm) began with these Dreadnought Cutaway Electric Guitars. They were designed as an alternative to imported acoustic-electrics"
Interestingly, my D25 wears an original True American TRC for no discernible reason I can see.

May I quote you on that? :?

 Only if you promise to not to quote it out of context....
