I am so impressed with the attention to detail and the beauty of the results.

BTW, it is still possible to get least a few different sizes of EVO gold fretwire.
I was able to get 55090 and 57110 directly from Jescar, and their web shop shows some sizes still available.

I just checked the Jescar site and all the Evo gold was unavailable when you select it.

Strange.
I just checked again and see several sizes listed as available. A few examples:

FS37080-EVO listed as available, but only in 25-piece sets

FW47104-EVO listed as available, coiled, 25-pece sets or 3ft straight

Around two months ago I received enough Evo fretwire for 12 guitars from them.

It's not listed as unavailable in the wire material choices.

But when I select EVOgold it comes back as unavailable.

AHA! If I select the tang size first, it shows the 25 piece set as available.

Are those 25 individual frets, as in short 2" lengths?

:)

Yes, and pre-radiused. Really last resort for me, but better than nothing when that was all I could get.

What to do when you start shaping the neck and find a couple of small hairline cracks near the headstock?
You put on your big boy pants and start dismemberment.
I'd rather redo the neck before it's finished than have it break while someone's playing it. I'll save the fingerboard and overlay and just put them on the new neck.
And make certain I leave it on the thickerer side, proportion be damned.
I'll sleep better.

Ugh wow. A whole new neck? Any chance you can take a close-up of what you found? I'm just curious with a strong 3-piece neck like that what you see that nagged you to make a new one.

Oh, and I totally agree with Shelby.. I love to see that kind of honesty (with yourself)!

I'd added a koa back overlay (underlay?) for, ironically, extra strength and to dress up the plain back. (It would have been thinned down.) I'm now thinking that the clamps might have put too much stress from the weight.

I do have enough of the neck sandwich glue up for a second neck for a (I thought) future build.

That crack appeared on both sides now (apologies to Judy.)

I can run the headstock overlay through the drum sander to get the old headstock wood off of it. That's easy enough.
The fingerboard, because it's already radiussed and fretted is another story. I don't want to do anything to risk the inlay and frets so it gets careful paring with the paring chisel. Then I can scrape/sand it clean, ready to go.
And because it Spanish cedar, it's coming off fairly easily. Super sharp chisel helps.
