Hello all. Those who have been out here for many years will recognize my username, but many of you may not. I spent much time out here in the past, but as often happens life got in the way. I have owned many Guild guitars over the years. Not nearly as many as some who require a storage unit, but more than most. I am the current owner of a New Hartford F-50 on the acoustic side, and I am perhaps the only owner of all three American Patriarch models, shown here.

The reason for my post is that I have decided to sell all of these guitars to get my finances in order so that I can help my son, who has been having a tough go of it for a while. As a teenager I had my share of issues as well. I was able to somehow figure them out, but that does not seem to be the case with my son. Not knowing how much money I may need, I need to start getting as much money together as I can. Guitars can be replaced, but my son can’t, so I would like any and all advice on how to best go about either selling these, or maybe even auctioning them off. Selling each individually is obviously an easy thing to do, but can take time. It would also be nice to keep the three AP guitars together, but that is not at all a priority.

Thanks in advance for the advice, and a happy Thanksgiving to all.

Wooo the blonde one is super! Best of luck with the sales - you are going to make some buyers really happy.

I bet I can't really afford any one of them, right? They look nice and sound like an expensive model.

Yes, guitars are just things so do what you need to do. Selling them separately will be quicker than trying to sell them as a lot. Good luck!

Good hearing from you again! Sorry for the trouble.
I still remember when I saw the three models for the first time at NAMM 2013. Such outstanding guitars!

Sorry to hear of your son's troubles, Dave, but good luck selling your Patriarchs.

You should probably make individual threads for them in the FS section and maybe put a picture of all three in each ad if you're looking to possibly sell as a triplet.

Best. -- Charlie

I like using Reverb and Craigslist.

Sometimes I've consigned guitars through guitar stores, but it's harder to find a store that will do it. The only one around here that does takes 25%.

Sorry to hear about your son. These are some fine and desirable guitars.

LTG, TGP, AGF and other forums are good choices to sell individually.

You can try reaching out to some higher end stores like Gruhn, Elderly, etc. for a quick sale (but less $) or a consignment on all three. They will have the exclusive clientele that are often looking to buy.

Local CL in a public place like a hotel lobby has worked well for me, and I always insist on cash. Because of no middle man and no shipping you can offer them at a more attractive price.

Reverb has a very broad audience but you need to mark it up at least 10% to cover fees. More if you want to take offers. Same with eBay but I am not as much a fan any more as I don’t believe they protect sellers from unethical buyers very well.

Best of luck…

Thanks for the replies and suggestions. I will most likely list them individually on Reverb and see how that goes.

Uggh! As a father of two sons in their 20s, I totally understand what kind of things teens can get into. Although I mourn the loss of your beautiful Guilds, I applaud your commitment to your boy. Best of luck in your efforts!
