Hi bodde; refitting the bridge and the bridge plate underneath not all that expensive; $100-$125. If it doesn't get it fixed, it will slowly keep coming up and probably belly the deck some behind it. It's a do-it-now or do-it-later thing but, at some point ...

Thanks guys for all your help! This is a great place to hang out.

After posting the picture yesterday I won the auction of a Taylor LKSM-12 for a reasonable price. I didn't expect to win. It was either the LKSM-12 guitar or this Guild.
I have to admit I never played on either one of them so I was very much in doubt what to do. Since the Guild did need some repair and I am not sure what to expect and what the costs are when I bring it to a luthier I choose the Taylor. But again I didn't think I would win, so if I wouldn't have won I would probably have bought the Guild.

When I don't like the Taylor I can always sell it and go on the lookout for a 12-string Guild.

I hope someone will jump in on this guitar. It looks very nice from the pictures I have.
The Woodbury Music Go Round were a great help.

I've never played one of the Kottkes, but that's the right comparison... Probably the only legitimate competitor to the F-212XL on the market. (mahogany body jumbo 12er, that is). I've only heard good things. Enjoy it.

I asked the shop about the bridge, if there is any bridge pull. There is a slight gap between the bridge and the body, although not much.
Not sure if this will need repair or that it doesn't matter if it stays like this.

I also asked about the intonation above the 12th fret. They said it is a little sharp but that the bridge can be lowered a bit. Will that solve the intonation problem?

Not sure what to do now.

Hello boddy and everybody else who's interested,

Maybe I'm missing something but the detail photo of the bridge doesn't look like the bridge of the '72 F-212XL that was the subject of this thread.

Sincerely,

Hans Moust

I agree with Hans, the wood on the bridge detail shot looks much lighter. It we let that pass due to lighting anomolies or whatever (but doubtful in my mind), where is the "cloud" profile? Explain the magic change from a beautiful, "slightly melted" look black pickguard to a tortise one... :?

No matter now though, enjoy the Kottke!

I'd get that reglued...costs a lot less now than waiting until it's major issue.

Great guitars, I have 2! :)

What strings does the XL come with? The 512 wears D'Addario EXPs. I thought I wouldn't like the coated strings, but I do. Problem is, they're really expensive. I'm thinking maybe the XL sports a more affordable alternative.

Hi Hans,

That is strange because that is the picture they have emailed me regarding the same F-212 XL that is this topics subject after they have told me there is a slight gap between the bridge and the body. They also send me some other detail pictures with the same lighter colour bridge.
Now you mention it it looks like there is tortoise pick guard on this picture as well. On the other pictures they have send me the guitar has a black pick guard.
So this is a picture from a different different guitar. Now I am confused.
Someone who is interested has to check this with the shop.

I checked up on the F212XL at Merry Go Round and here's the story. I asked for some pics and the guy there sent me a total of 25. I immediately noticed that these were of two different guitars but before I could write back, he emailed me again with the correct pics and an apology (he seemed like a real nce guy). I checked these against the ones that Thunderface posted and, yes, it was the same guitar with the same serial number. It seems that they had two F212s in the shop and there was some kind of confusion about which pics were of which guitar (presumably there's another one there with a slightly lifting bridge). Anyway, it looked suprisingly clean and, after asking a few more questions (their luthier checked it out, gave it a setup and his seal of aproval), I decided to pop for it. It should arrive on Friday.

Thanks Thuderface!

Here's two picture of the actual bridge

I'll post more when it arrives.

Congrats!

That bridge looks better then the one on the pictures that they have send me. Don't think this one needs repair?
I think it is a great buy.

I the Taylor LKSM didn't come on my path I would have bought this one.
Let us know what it sounds and plays like when you have it. Then I know what I have missed.
