Technically not a collection. But, a rarity to say the least. I have actually eaten there.

I've used them all, but the Schick Type J injector (cream handle) and Gillette Aristocrat Junior are the ones I use on a regular basis :)
That's a great collection. I think you and GAD should have a shave-off someday! :D :D

Can you still buy safety razor blades, PoD? Or do you strop your blades yourself? I think I had some stroppers back in the day, but I don't think they worked very well. Gee, I do miss my dad's razors; I'm going to search my mom's house and see if they kept any.

I have a really odd collection of WWII stuff that my war hero uncle gave me when I was a kid. You guys would love to see some of this stuff... Not a collection, per se, but more of a trophy thing (at least for my uncle). I've got a bunch of trophies for trapshooting, but I'm just not sure they or the WW2 objects are appropriate for this forum. I'll think on it.

The "biggest" collection I have is a whole bunch of oil paintings by my mom that decorate my house. She isn't famous, but she was very good, and very prolific. Maybe I should take some pics of these.

A while back, my wife and I downsized to an old house with half the floor space of the one in which we raised our kids. And zero closets.

We literally gave away half our belongings (the crappy half)! The only collection to make the cut was my guitars. Now I am in the process of downsizing them as well.
Living lean, eh, Neal.

Since the pandemic I’ve pretty much quit smoking them. I started playing guitar right around then and guitar is an indoor activity and smoking a pipe, at my wife’s insistence, is decidedly not.
My grandpa used to smoke a pipe. I remember sitting on his lap and playing with his tobacco pouch. That smelled so good. I also liked the smell of the pipe, but even more so the smell of the unlit tobacco. He used to smoke a brand called "Half and Half," I think. I never knew what the halves were, but I'm pretty sure they were tobacco (and not something a little more "modern.")

The halves were burley, which provided more body (and nicotine) and “bright” aka Virginia, which provided the flavor.

There are many places online that sell new safety razor blades. There is also a huge market for NOS blades. If you want to see how nuts the shaving community is check out the Badger and Blade forum. :)

People do love their safety razors. I learned to shave with one when they and injectors were the only choice. I miss my safety razor about as much as I miss my rotary phone.

Since the blades are not allowed through TSA security I would shave with a Mach3 while traveling and use a safety razor at home. The safety razor wins hands down all day every day and twice on Sunday. A Mach3 or similar wins if you don't want to think about it and "smash and drag" your way through a shave, but a safety razor produces infinitely better results.

What kind are the two brass ones in the upper left? I have one like it from my father. I suspect it's European.
They are both Gillettes, an "Old Type" and a "New". They are both American designs, but also produced in Gillette's factories in other countries. I'll have to check, but I'm pretty sure the "New" is American and can't recall whether the "Old Type" was American or British:unsure: As with many of the older Gillette razors, the names are not official, with the "Old Type" being the original model and other names being taken from Gillette's marketing, with the next basic model being the "New Improved", followed by the "New".

I really hate anything more than the twin blade razors... I use disposable twin-blades all the time.

I agree about the effectiveness of the safety razor. I used to love to shave with those.

As GAD says, most blades are fairly widely available, though often more so online than in physical shops. Most blades tend to be stainless steel and don't need stropping. Of those razors, the only ones that need stropping are the Rolls Razors, which have a device in the case for both honing and stropping the blade, but I've always struggled to get a good edge! Of the other razors, the old Gem and Valet Autostrop, which are the two closest to the upper Rolls, were intended to be stropped, as was the Durham Duplex, which is the one that resembles a traditional straight razor.

Yes, Badger & Blade is great, I used to spend a lot of time on there, but not so much in recent years. Been quite some time since I bought a razor.

You had me dig mine out. It, is, I guess "old style" - with the two pins that protrude through, but has longer 'teeth' like the one on the right. It's stamped "PASOLETTE" on either side of the bottom part of the blade holder. The knurling is really quite nice - smooth and fine, on it.
