Over the summer, LTGer flabbafan posted a thread about string height regarding acoustics. What's everyone's preferred height for an archtop, or I guess any other electric? I have mine at 5/64" for the low E at the twelve fret, and about 2/64" on the high E.

This seems to give me as low as I can get without too much string buzz...

With acoustic archtops like my Gibson L-7's.....at least those set up to be played that way without using the floating pickups, I tend to set the string height at around 6/64" at the 12 fret low E and 5/64" on the high E. Sort of a "medium" action I'd suppose.

For electric playing I'll usually set them up at 5/64" on the low E and 4/64" on the high E.....which is pretty much the same setup for my plywood hollowbody Guilds. Those with near perfect necks and frets will allow me to sneak up on lower action than that.
