Can anyone tell by looking at these if they are vintage Hb-1's?

The guy who has the SFIV that Treem is checking out for me threw us a curveball by disclosing a lot of things after the fact like wear on the neck, dings/scratches/etc, and not sure if the pups are originals.

Damn curveballs these sellers throw!

Those look like HB-1's. You can't be 100% sure without seeing the back but with the three adjustment screws I'd say it's a safe bet they are.

Yea, no real way to tell without pulling them. The pups on my green S-100 look the part on the outside, but pulling them revealed some SDs!

I'll have them checked as soon as I get the guitar. based on the review of the pups from Treem they sound like some HB1 sweetness.

Even if they are SDs, they sound killer...at least they do in the green S-100. I may be wrong, but I think the only crappy pups you could wind up with that have those covers are the Fender copies.

I really liked the SD's that were in my SFII, they were some good sounding pups, but I truly hope these are HB1's after all I have heard about how marvelous they are.

As good as those SD's were, they're not the same as the ones Hammer is talking about. But you don't have to worry about any of that. Given the year I doubt that guitar has anything but the original HB-1's in it. Welcome to the club. You won't want to leave it.

Yea, mine was a 59/JB set, IIRC.

Yep, same as my '96. I thought they were alright. The SFII would have had the SD-1's.

And Mojo - not to build it up to much - you won't be disappointed.

that number 10 bridge dates it....those are real hb1's.

by the time that guitar had duncans or fender pickups we were using a tune-o-matic.

thank you for the info, at this point after hearing how great they sound I would have to assume they are the vaunted HB1's everyone talks so highly about! :D
