no excuse in todays world for a boutique guitar shop to not do a little research on what they are selling, especially if they posting vids! obviously it is not made of walnut, and obviously u have to plug that thing in.

try to recover with this one.

Yeah I think a proper demo video would have a condenser mic for the acoustic tones and plug in too, because these have a very nice electric sound too (and most users will likely end up using that). Even with a condenser mic though, I really don't think you can capture the acoustic magic that these provide in a demo video... it's one of those, you've-gotta-hear-it-in-person things. The tone is very nice in and of itself, but it's the projection that's really special. When I play mine acoustically, it sounds great and is notably louder than other acoustic basses, but doesn't sound SUPER loud. You really get a sense for the projection when somebody else is playing it across the room... it somehow sounds louder then. You just have to be in the line of fire and let those long-wave bass notes hit you to properly experience it.

All that being said, I think their Guitar of the Day series is more just to throw a line out there, more or less just quickly showing off the instrument, saying a couple words, and seeing if anybody bites. Probably hoping for an impulse purchase by somebody who has already decided they are going to buy something. None the less, not knowing super basic specs like tonewoods used (which are actually quite ordinary in this case) is inexcusable nowadays. Even if the superstar camera-regulars at Norms are too busy or the research task is simply below them, they can always ask any intern or office staff member to do a quick search online and they'll have the info within a couple of minutes.

Always good to see a nice Guild get some spotlight though!

On a sidenote, @mavuser , I never realized that Krist hands the bass off on that number and plays guitar instead! Should note that I used to listen to these live recordings religiously when I was still in middle school and high school. I had the songbook and everything, but I suppose that was before you could just hop on youtube and pull up the videos!

I have a 1988 b30nt. I know someone who has an Earthwood and it is way louder than my Guild...it has a sound post and it projects like a stand up, but it's not a good instrument...shitty bolt on neck, intonation isn't good...I experimented with installing a sound post in the b30 and it had the opposite effect.
The Ernie Ball is worth a lot more money, but I wouldn't take one for my Guild.

It would be interesting to redo the comparison with the Earthwood. I have found that what I think I hear while playing and what the audience hears at various points in the performance space can be quite different. But no one here will tell you you are making the wrong choice by sticking with the Guild
