I just got mine back yesterday and it is a little monster. Loving this guitar, I pased up a few others along the way but it was well worth the wait.

It is currently set up with 11's and a woung g since the bridge is made for a wound 3rd. Without the wound 3rd the intonation was all over the place, which seems to leave me with 2 option: leave the wound 3rd on it or change the bridge for one made for a plain G. It'll take a little getting used to bending a wound g again, but on the flip side it'll build up the finger strength for when I play electrics

what size strings and brand are you currently running on your X-50? Anyone changed the bridge to one setup for a plain G? How did that work out?

My X-50 is an older NY era version with the 25.5" scale length.

Right now its strung with a D'Addario EJ-21 nickel round wound lights. (.012-.052)
I've also used and been happy with John Pearce strings of the same type.

I play my acoustic archtops with mediums and sometimes will put a set of those on an electric archtop just because.....
....or maybe its a feel I'm accustomed to. But usually for me its 12's on my Guild electric archtops.

Of course different playing styles have something to do with string choices and I have a feeling you're going for something different than I am with your X-50.

I've never felt a need to try a plain G so hopefully someone else has something useful to say about that.

Played it for about 2 hours last night. The wound G is easy enough to bend and the intonation is spot on so I am going to stick with the 11's and wound G for now.

That little single coil is LOUD...a real screamer. But with the voulme down it has real nice clarity and every note rings out clearly. The neck is not super slim or fat but a perfect medium and this guitar is the perfect size for playing on the couch. Nice acoustic tone as well. Very pleased with this one, it'll be a keeper for sure.

When I had my X-50, I used D'Addario EJ-20 strings ("jazz extra light"). Nice thin wound third string. These aren't that easy to find in music stores, I get them on-line via Musician's Friend. I use them now on my Casino - I like the wound third string.
