Black Keys were the musical guests on this past Saturday Night Live.

Nice to see a Thunderbird on TV. Long time since the Spoonfull.

One of the very few bands "the kids like these days" that I can really get into. (I realise that makes me sound about 150 years old..) Singer's got a great voice, some great guitar playing and tones, and even some tunes.

Figures that I would fall asleep before seeing Dan Auerbach wield an S-200 Thunderbird on "Gold on the Ceiling." I liked this band before, but now I like them even more now ...

I'm going to guess that the cameraman is either a Guild fanatic or a vintage guitar connoisseur, because there were a ton of closeups of the Thunderbird, some of the best of which I included above. I wonder how many people watching the show were going "What is that guitar that he's playing?"

The Clash were once referred to as a garage band in a non-complimentary way, when Charles Sharr Murrary said of one of their earliest performances that, "the Clash are one of those garage bands that should be swiftly returned to the garage, preferrably with the doors closed and the engine running," according to Joe Strummer in Westway to the World.

Enjoyed seeing that Thundie in action... and the icing on the cake: The drummer's glasses. The end shot at 3:30 is priceless.

Don't you think Thunderface should own a Thunderbird? Alas, I guess I'll just have to settle for the S-200's little brother, the Polara. Have to settle. :D

Let's hope it looks and sounds as good in my hands as it does in Treem's.

Sounds like a must if you ask me.
Have you seen any on the bay recently? And if so what did it fetch? out of curiosity....

I wonder if they wrote "Garageland" after that:

"Back in the garage with my bull**** detector,
carbon monoxide makeing sure it's effective...

We're a garage band, we come from garageland"

I loved the Clash, especially up to London Calling. Saw them in 1981 in a 2000 seat theatre - they chose to play 7 nights there rather than 1 in the 15,000 place. Great show.

His Thunderbird looks just like mine!

(Well his headstock overlay might be a little more wrinkled then mine.)

Since I know Thunderface loves composite photos here's the "Trifecta". S-200, S-100 & S-50.

Big Brother and the Holding Company were a garage band once too, and they got by with a lowly S50:

Thunder's already got one of those!
Am I correct in inferring that there's an S100 on the way from Treem? :D
Correction: Thunder had a lowly S-50, but he sold it a couple of weeks ago on eBay. And yes, there is an S-100 coming via the Treem Enabling Co. You must have missed that discussion previously.

Thunderface does like composite photos, but he's absolutely Cuckoo for Cocoapuffs for sunbursts, and that is the Holy Trinity of Vintage Guild Solidbody Sunburstness! OH MY GROT! I sit humbled at my keyboard in the presence of the Master! :D

+1. Loved the Clash too, including after London Calling. The 80s was a very different musical decade for me and most of my friends than it is portrayed on TV retrospectives full of big hair bands and 80s video pop.

I think the difference was the Before MTV, and After MTV.

I agree. I played some middle-era Talking Heads to my son a few weeks back. He quite liked it and was surprised the 80s produced something decent.
One of my favourite bands was The Ruts, although they were technically late 70s, only just making to the 80s before the signer OD'd.

WARNING - punk rock veer and Gibson SG, not S-100!

And punk-reggae.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rJYS0b6p ... re=related

The way that the Clash, Ruts and some others created a punk-reggae genre always fascianted me. And the way they united against racism in RAR made me proud to be a music fan.
