I signed up for his mailing list, and was deluged with offers of dumb merch; bobbleheads, drink coasters, Christmas ornaments, guitar picks, etc. I got sick of all that and unsubscribed. I'd like to see Joe live, but don't want to pay $125 and up for a ticket.
Exactly what I thought, I also unsubscribed from that dumb merch list. But I saw him live in 2017 and he was really good. But yes, his ticket prices now are insane.
But he plays not only "nice" instruments, he played an extremely ugly (means well used) 1966 CBS Strat for instance that night. He bought her at GC Hollywood from Nick Conte. Look at that fretboard ! He doesn't mind to also play the turds.

But he also played that 1955 Stratocaster Hardtail, Sunburst, maple fretboard - he calls her „the best Stratocaster that I own“:

That night alone he played 8 different Fenders and Gibsons. A lot of money was on that stage in the racks...

I met Joe briefly when he was a kid. He was in a band called Bloodline, and they were working out their first record in a friend's project studio. He played strats, marshalls "wide open". Every knob at 11. He was amazing on that album and I heard some bootlegs of their tour, opening for zz top. I will always remember in my mind that kid ripping "white room" live. So impressive.
I actually liked that old stuff best. Smokin Joe, with a great band and another singer.
Ultimate respect for him for making it in this age as a guitar hero.

Canada .... brrr
I had no awareness of him until a few years ago when I came across his concert on PBS while channel surfing. I thought that there was a lot of noodling like in the good old days, and I am impressed that apparently it is still possible to make lots of dough with that.
