one of the main reasons why i got a Starfire IV in the first place , is because of Buddy Guy, a true legend of the blues saw him last year in london , top notch!

Lucky! I would really like to see Buddy Guy, he is one of my all time idols. I just missed out on the chance to see him here locally 2 months ago because I had already bought tickets to see Joe Bonamassa and didnt have the coin for more tickets.

If you are a Buddy Guy fan, pick up the Muddy Waters album "Folk Singer", it is acoustic but I think it is some of the finest work Buddy Guy ever laid down.

I've seen Buddy Guy twice. Let's just say that they were "interesting" shows.

The first time was at the famed Stone Pony in Asbury Park NJ. Apparently he wasn't happy with all the chatter in the bar while he was playing and just stopped right in the middle of a song and yelled "SHUT THE F#CK UP!" at the audience! He then when on for about ten minutes berating the crowd about giving the perform some respect and such.

Then a couple of years later I saw him at the Trade Winds Beach Club in Sea Bright NJ. The show sucked! Jimmy Vaughn opened for him and he was great! When Buddy came on all he did was play snippets of songs. He'd play maybe a verse and chorus and then stop and say "that's enough of that one" and then start playing another song and do the same thing! I don’t think he played a complete song the whole night.

Needless to say that from those two experiences I'm not much of a Buddy Guy fan. Then again, I'm not much of a "blues guy" to begin with. <ducks>

I haven't got round to buying that on e, but i've heard it many times , some great tunes and really good to get an acoustic out and play along to it !
i'm not really a fan of joe Bonnamassa , each to their own , i 've read interviews and he comes across a a genuinely good guy, i just don't go for blues rock wailing solos that seem to go on and on!
i like to keep it to the point and no fret w$%&king!
i prefer Buddy over jimi hendrix all the time!

So do I and I know I will ruffle feathers when I say this but, I prefer Buddy over Jimi because I think jimi got most of his whole presentation from Buddy. His antics, his style with a guitat in his hand, his vocal style and a the rest...Jimi always seemed like a bad Buddy Guy impersonator with wilder clothes and more distorted. My opinion of course. When I see these videos all I can think is: hendrix watched Buddy ALOT.

A good player with a couple issues...

The clip of "First time I met the blues" is may favourite on U-Tube, I get goose-bumps every time I hear it. Mostly prefer his more recent stuff though, Damn Right.. and Bring it on are great albums. Stone Crazy is worth a listen if you like that clean brittle sound with the starfire.

I saw Buddy Guy twice in Toronto. Once at the Mariposa Folk Festival with Junior Wells and again at a club on Yonge Street where he had a guitar cord long enough to be able to not only walk throughout the audience while playing but also long enough to be able to walk out onto the street and play! Both shows were fantastic. Glad I got to see Buddy and many other acoustic and electric blues players while they were still in their prime. Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee at the Riverboat, Sam Chatmon, Bukka White, John James, Roy Buchanan, Muddy Waters and the list goes on. Dearly wish I could have seen Mississippi John Hurt and Lightnin' Hopkins but missed them.

I saw Buddy Guy at the KESWICK near Philadelphia ten years ago and it was a great show. (It was the first time I got to hear him.) He interacted a lot with the audience. He did a Blues history lesson and covered all the greats up thru Hendrix and SRV.

A few years ago he played two hours north of Philadelphia at a great place on the incline of the Pocono plateau called PENNS PEAK. I wasn't there but apparently he wasn't happy with the crowd and in the middle of the show stormed off the stage and ended the concert. I didn't see it but a close blues buddy of mine told me about it. Said he will never come back to PENNS PEAK. PENNS PEAK isn't known for having a rowdy crowd but people do drink.

Just figured I pass that on...
