I never heard of this model. It's not on the 1987 ad slick on GAD's site. Looks like a standard P-J bass with poor string pull design.

Deja Vu but I don't know why and it could just be because there are only so many ways to make an asymmetric double cutaway solid body.

In our never ending quest for informative titles, I note the ambiguity. While the bass is a Cannon by Burnside "Burnside Cannon" could also refer to any number of Union artillery pieces during the American Civil War. While that could be a stretch for a guitar site, Burnside's post-war political career was based in Rhode Island which at least gives it a weak Westerly connection. Sometimes I overthink until I have finished my coffee...

Hey gang. Been lurkin here for a few years. That guitar is mine. I would check here every few months to see if I could find out any more info I didn't know about this bass. There was a Guild collector I was trying to get ahold of to scrape for more info, but I think he passed sadly, as his online presence stopped all at once in 2016 or thereabouts. There is another collector here in the Carolinas where I'm at, that has a ton of Burnsides....but not this one. I got it when I was 15 in Indiana at Opus 1 music cause it was like $100 cheaper than the BC Rich NJ they had which was really close to this model in1990. Grabbed it back from 20 year storage at the folk's house when my mother passed away and have been pluckin on it since 2011. Just started my quest in 2014 for info, and I never come up with much on this model, or why out of the 36 Crossbows that were prototypes, I've seen even less of these. Just weird.

Anyway, after so many years... nice to finally engage on this site. Didn't wanna just show up with questions.

Also, I agree on the string pull...not a fan either, but I do like the headstock all pointy and Aqua Netty. It stays in tune really well, and sounds/plays great with surprisingly good growling tone. It plays like a mid 90s MIM Fender Jazz I had til about 2019. Lol, and it still has the strings on it from when I bought it in 1990.

Hello Scotty,

Welcome! Most Burnside guitars and basses had a model name, but also a model number. I don't remember the Cannon model name, but I do remember the features and it was also referred to as the BB-111. It's from the 1987-1988 period.

Sincerely,

Hans Moust
