Do not be alarmed, but the cannibal shrimp invasion has begun.

The influx of the jumbo-sized shrimp (which look more like a small lobster than the little pink crustaceans you see at the grocery store) has increased 10 times in the last year, according to a report from the U.S. Geological Survey—from 32 in 2010 to 331 in 2011. The shrimp-eating shrimp have been spotted in waters from North Carolina on the Southeast coast to Texas in the Gulf of Mexico.

:D I've had a serious look at this problem and I say "eat 'em!" Eat 'em all! Fried, grilled, stuffed, etouffee, bisque, jambalya, tacos, enchaladas......whatever. Let me fire up the grill, just a touch of Louisiana Cajun seasoning, a little butter and a touch of lemon.

Go West! I'm with you! If they must be killed (and they must) then I say harvest 'em. There's, um, shrimp kebabs, shrimp creole, shrimp gumbo, pan fried, deep fried, stir fried. There's pineapple shrimp and lemon shrimp, coconut shrimp, pepper shrimp, shrimp soup, shrimp stew, shrimp salad, shrimp and potatoes, shrimp burger, shrimp sandwich... :D

Spent a week in Singapore Marc.....maybe my most favorite place in the world....aside from the good old USA of course. It's the one place I'd love to take Mrs. West one day. The cleanliness, the culture, the people......just an awesome place.

What were you doing there.....the Navy?

I'd like to try a few of those in my shrimp Creole recipe. Really nice over jasmine rice....yum!

If they get too close to southwest Louisiana, those Cajuns will be all over 'em! Believe me, I know those Cajuns quite well! 8)

No, West, it was '98 and I was writing for an electronics manufacturing journal. They invited me to come to Singapore and lead two days of soldering workshops on rework and repair techniques for surface-mount electronics, then I spent the week there attending the rest of the conference and sightseeing. It was a great trip and good money too. Plus, the editor of the magazine and his entourage took us out to different restaurants every night, Sudanese, Indian, and Afghan...plus several other fine drinking establishments including the one that allegedly invented the Singapore Sling. Rode a rickshaw back to the hotel one night. Yeah, back in the day...

Although if I were going to take my wife anywhere I've been it would be Japan, I really fell in love with that country, their food, and their people. Mrs. Dread would have a blast there.

 We must have just missed each other Marc. I was in Singapore in March of 2000. In fact, I arrived in Malaysia the first week of February, 2000 during Chinese New Year, Year of the Golden Dragon, change in Millenia. Man, everybody in Asia was on vacation or partying.

I spent the first couple of weeks in this dump....

Then the last several months in Kuantan here....couldn't get the company to spring for the Hyatt Regency any longer :(

Stayed here in Singapore....

In Kuantan, we found a place where we could eat a serving platter of prawn or calamri, a serving platter of sweet and sour beef, and the best Chinese fried rice, along with a 6 pack of Tiger beer for $12 US. Gosh I miss that place!

I was there teaching bearings, mechanical seals and rotolign laser alignment of pumps, turbines and motors.

You'll appreciate this Marc if you went to Sentosa Island in Singapore (where the Merlion gurads the harbor). One of the technicians, an Indian guy, wanted to take us to eat, so off we went to Little India. The Indian food was fantastic and we REALLY pigged out. Then we dicided to go to Sentosa Island and catch the gondola at Faber Mountain (which travels a couple of miles across the harbor about 100 ft off the water). About the time the gondola left the ramp......Montezuma's (Buda's) revenge hit!!!!  I almost had the guys hang on to my arms and hung it out the open door over the harbor. Hit the first squat pot I came to.

This is the cable car (gondola)....

I bought some really nice Rolexs in Singapore. I think I bought 5 of them for 90 bucks.

Coldest public transportation in the Far East. Them are some nice air conditioners.

Almost went after a job there last summer, teaching in a helo simulator. Pretty decent gig, except two year contract. She Who Shall Be Obeyed put the kibosh on that pipe dream.

Back to the shrimp...there are a huge variety of exotic species in the Gulf, most due to bilge dumping by foreign shipping. When I was in Mobile, there were some serious blooms of some weird jelly fish, just thousands of them, like a huge floating wall of jelly fish.

We called those Rorex watches. I think I bought about 25 of them Effin....seriously, and not a one of them lasted a month. Still got drawer full of them. I've thought about sending one to Switzerland to get it fixed.......nah. And the subway operator of every subway in the US should travel the Singapore MRT at least once.............my gosh......cobblestone replaced every 2 years, atriums with stunning orchids everywhere.....just incredible.

Need a wingman for that two-year gig Effin? When he can not convince her he need to doith the gig, he should take her with him! She'd love it!
