Hi gang!... remember this NGD thread? viewtopic.php?f=4&t=24238
Well this extremely clean carved puppy had one flaw, that I was aware of, as it was very clearly disclosed in the auction: The neck bindings had been replaced (probably when/if the gutar was refretted), and the material used did not look, nor did it feel, like a proper binding, made of several pieces poorly jointed, and that caused the high E to slip and get caught under a fret! :(
So guess what? Since Tom and Dave visited Thursday for the "Starfire IV project", I showed it to Tom, who said it could be easily fixed, and suggested that to make it perfect, a refret was in order to ensure a perfect leveling of the frets edges.
So the boys got back on the road with one more guitar in their cargo (Oh, and one amp... the 66-J now belongs to Tom, you gotta love these family transfers 8) ) and Tom didn't waste any time pulling the bindings and the frets, and sent me that pic, showing what these "bindings" were made of.....

I am relieved to know that my dear carved is in good hands and will be perfect when I get it back. :D

Cheers, Pascal and Tom. There's nothing like having a great luthier, and it's great to know that the job will be done correctly this time round. If they used zip ties for the fretboard binding, it's hard to imagine that they did a proper refret either.

You have to admire their polish engineering, but other than that...I've got nothing.
