Ah, I am beginning to get it. If you look at the guitar it appears that a) the cavity is bigger than the shielding and b) there is copper on the "lip" that is part of the recess so that the cover plate lies flat.

On the JS there is definitely copper on the sides of the cavity, which does not seem to be the case on the guitar, and there never was, so far as I can recall, copper on the recess lip.

Evidence of an evolution in design or proof that basses are just to weird compared to guitars.

Yes i see what you are saying about the strip of shielding, And i am sure that is the exact reason for it. On the JSII it looks like the shielding is covering the sides of the control cavity as well, but I see no strip of shielding going up to the cover, which wouldn't really work anyway since the bottom piece of shielding(i am sure that is what it is) doesn't cover the whole cover.


I wanted to thank everyone for all the compliments on my guitar. They mean alot coming from the people here. :mrgreen:
