The aftermath:I don't find a year listed for the video but the suits and ties look very early 60s. The peak of the Great American Folk Scare!
Man, I missed that! I might have been in Japan with Mrs. Dr. Cougar, who was a visiting professor on sabbatical at the Tokyo Institute of Technology....FYI, Brian Ray first played with McCartney in the pre-game Super Bowl show in 2002.
Yep, Jean did OK, but Brian's done really well. The "band" from the aforementioned tour stayed together for a while, and we got back together with Bobby (Pickett) for a benefit for Phil Kaufman who had stolen Gram Parson's body and cremated it out in Joshua Tree National Park, per their mutual 'pact'. (Come to find out, a friend had paid his bail and fines, so this wasn't for "legal fees"; Phil was just broke.) Anyway, it was quite a party out in the Valley at Kaufman's Chandler Blvd. place in Van Nuys. Unbeknownst to me, Etta's manager was one of the crowd at that party and hooked Brian up with Etta, which, as you say, resulted in a ten-year gig with the lady. Then he toured with him on the "Driving Rain" tour and played the Super Bowl half-time show in 2005. Either way, he started with him at a Super Bowl! As you said, he's been with him ever since.
It's pretty cool that he had an impressive resume well before he met Sir Paul - among other things, he was Etta James' musical director and guitarist for over 10 years!
