Oh, no argument on the importance, GAD. If it's the megastars who are bidding, that's cool. I just didn't think the vast unwashed would appreciate this. I mean how many studio guitars were played by greats but don't have the provenance of being owned by any of them... Who ever hears about those drawing serious buckaroos. Anyway, it's nice to see a Guild having this kind of value!

$9500 doesn't seem so bad anymore.

Covered in another thread. Sold on Reverb in Dec for about $9-10K, just after Hans identified it has being the SRV MTV F412.

When Hans speaks, people listen. Hopefully it was someone here who did.

“details ....... this was the guitar that Stevie Ray Vaughn used during the MTV-Unplugged sessions. Good chance that the sellers are going to jack up the price when they hear about this 'tidbit' of information, so if you're that collector ......... buy it now! “

chazmo, I don't think I ever replied to the original one from December. My post lost a little context after your "move", or I am starting to lose it, which is also likely!

personally (and thankfully), I am happier watching a video of SRV playing this 412, than I would be owning it...but if I were John Mayer or Derek Trucks, etc...I would be all over this

I would expect winning bid to be well into the six figures

To go way back in this thread, at which point did the F-412 become a regular production instrument and not a special order? I have a 1971 model that also scares my cat. I always thought it was my playing and singing that did that... I put in a sound hole plug to keep her happy as well as to cut the feedback when I plug it in.

You get someone like John Mayer who is a huge fan with deep pockets going up against mega collectors like Joe Bonamassa and I could see that price hitting 250k or more.

It would be great to see Mayer and Bonamassa stage a 12 string blues face off to see who gets the guitar. No offense to collectors, but this one needs to go to an artist who will be inspired by it and create.

The guitar is on display at the Heritage Auctions booth at the Dallas International Guitar Festival (more on that in a separate thread)

Hell of a pay day for whoever bought it off Reverb. I think they owe Hans a big “thank you”. Man that’s 1959 LP burst territory. Most expensive Guild ever?
