Fwiw, the two D15s I had were much more enjoyable to play - and hear - than any of the D17s.
The D15-12 I had was excellent too.

i have 2 guild maple 12 strings ,and while i like a bit of the jangle, i do not own a mahogony guild in 6 or 12 strings. if i can get the guy to accept my offer, ill more than likely acquire this particular D 17. ive never seen a finish like that on any of my guilds ,martins, or gibsons. i do appreciate all the replys .gives me an idea of the model in question.Everyone has there own sound they are looking for and I would not look at the D17/D16/D15 as a lesser sounding guitar. I have a Guild D46, D-25 and D15 as well as other Guild acoustics and think each one has it's own sound and place, all great sounding guitars. Of the three I mentioned I enjoy the D15 the most. It has what is hard to find, a well balanced tone across all six strings. Not just a balanced volume but a balanced tone. Even better IMHO is the Guild D15-12. The mahogany top on a 12 string is wonderful. Now keep in mind I don't like a 12 string with jangle. That's the reason I generally don't like maple body acoustics, except in an archtop. The balance in string tone you get with a 12 string mahogany top is something special.
Again, everyone as a certain they like and it's all good!
The dark cherry burst is exquisite and like you I have never seen another like that. Still, the feedback above on the sound quality of the D-17 would give me pause.ive never seen a finish like that on any of my guilds ,martins, or gibsons
Lol, i was thinking the same thing, .But then i started getting more replys on the guild acoustic guitar site on fb. and even more responses over on the acoustic guitar players forum. As it stands at this time, responses are about 60 40, .. meaning the 60 % are saying that the all mahogony body has its own voice. Were so used to sitka, over maple,or rose wood, or magogony bodies ,that a lot of guild players feel that the all mahogony is simply mellower. ive never played an all mahogony guitar ,but have heard a few. And the sound is different. Warmer. Nothing ventured / nothing gained.Besides , it is a USA made guild. The dark cherry burst is exquisite and like you I have never seen another like that. not looking to resell, just wanting an all mahogony guild. I have 7 guilds ,3 are 12,s.all sitka over rosewood, or maple, one sitka over mahogony.A US Made guild thats not a lot of money. I just spent over 4 k for a 2022 D 55E. so ,this guitar is about 40 years old ,in great shape, and not a bunch of moneyThat is a Gryphon eBay auction from an estate. Somewhat of an oddball, thus very little awareness. These out of the mainstream guitars will likely be hard to sell. Probably a great value for what is likely a good sounding guitar. You won't get rich or go broke.
By that reasoning, a D-17 is absolutely a good, no, excellent pick.not looking to resell, just wanting an all mahogony guild. I agree!! Having a bunch of guitars that are all the same seems silly to me. I agree with @adorshki !!!By that reasoning, a D-17 is absolutely a good, no, excellent pick.
