Has anyone read the review in the new issue of AG? It is also available to read online at acguitar.com It's a New Hartford model and it tested out pretty good. Check it out for yourself.

And it's nice to read that he actually spent a month with the guitar.

Can anyone here note the differences in this New Hartford model and the Tacoma model?

AG mentions a change in the fret board radius, a three piece neck, and two truss rods.......are these different from the Tacoma models?

Could be these new New Hartford D-40's are going to be fine guitars. I hope so.

I contacted two Guild dealers here in the Seattle area to see if they had any D-40's in stock. Both dealers told me they were Guild dealers in name only, and didn't really have any Guilds on hand. I was disappointed. Anybody know of a Guild dealer here in the Pacific Northwest that actually has Guilds in stock?

JD,

I think the description was of a dual action truss rod, not two truss rods. I could be wrong.

Did you talk to American Music in Fremont, back when new Guilds were available, they had the best selection of anyone.

Music 6000, here in Olympia, has none but a vintage Westerly D25. Previously they stocked quite a few new Guilds & the D40's outsold everything. Took a long time to sell the one & only D55 they got in & even longer to sell a GAD F20. Everything else sold pretty quick.

Of the Tacoma models I played the D40 would be my 1st choice & a sweet vintage design F30 2nd. The little F30 was really nice, didn't get to freeload & play it much, sold in less than a week.

Hey Jeff,

Whats a dual action truss rod ? One that is adjustable from either end ? How would that be an advantage ?

Just wondering....

Heck I don't know nothing about guitars, my guess it's as you say or more likely the truss rod adjustment can push and/or pull.
..........

I googled it:

http://www.fretnotguitarrepair.com/trussrods.htm

"Dual action truss rods These rods can add relief as well as straighten a neck. When turned counter clock wise the rod bends forward creating forward bow (relief) to the neck. These rods have small hex nuts that are welded to the end of the rod and unlike a tradition rod, the nut can not be removed."

I looked over my Tacoma D40 RH last night, and it's a one piece neck. The two music stores where I check in regularly are both Guild dealers. One has no new Guilds right now, the other only has a couple of Tacoma Guilds, a D40 BJ and a D50. They don't know when they'll see any new ones. :(
