Maybe it had electronics on the side where the hole is ? A sound port on the shoulder side by the neck makes no sense whatsoever unless the player is hunched over with his head in that area of the guitar but that would possibly move the strumming hand closer to the fretboard which would limit the effectiveness of a GAD pick guard then again I’m not sure what playing style this guard would actually work with .
The only purpose of a sound hole by the neck was because the bass player was complaining he couldn’t hear the guitar . Lol
Over all this seems more likely a case of smoking to much of the crack pipe .
