I recently purchased a Guild
D100-NT acoustic guitar. I cannot seem to find the year this Guild, AD100003, was built, shows to be approximately 1997, wondering if anyone can fill in the blanks as the prefix “AD” on the Serial # is confusing.
Also it does not have the “carved” neck and was wondering if some were built as a standard model or it could have been a Custom order.
Thanks!

Welcome to LTG! Great guitar to show us for a first post, too! Someone with more info than me should be along shortly to assist.

Those guitars must be quite rare: I haven't see many. I vote for more photographs...

Congrats !

They made both, with carved and uncarved necks. The carved neck label would say D-100 NT CRV.
And, just to clarify, I think the carved neck heel wasn't a custom order. It was an option on this guitar. I think we've seen roughly equal numbers of each, although...

I wouldn't say "rare" exactly, but they were made for a limited time and they were top of the line, price-wise. Any way you look at it, there aren't a ton of these around. Yours looks very beautiful, @Tom Hermes TX !! Congratulations! And welcome aboard. And, YES, more pictures please when you get a chance!

Hello Tom,

Welcome! Your guitar was completed during the year 1994. While the D-100 was the top-of-the-line D-size guitar in the Guild line at the time that the model was introduced, it was also available with an optional carved heel for an extra $ 300.00.
It turned out that the 'Carved' model became the more popular version and the majority of D-100s that left the factory during the following years did have the carved neck. Your guitar is, as weird as it may sound, somewhat unusual in that it has the 'standard' neck and it is very well possible that your guitar is actually a little older than the serial number would suggest, as it may have kept in stock, un-finished, till an order for a 'standard' D-100 had come in.

There should be an ink-stamped date on one of the beveled edges of the neck block, which should be visible through the soundhole.
This is not the manufacturing date, but the date that the rim was completed in the 'body shop'. Typical completion date of the guitar would be a couple of months after the neck block date, but sometimes more, depending on the popularity of the model during that specific period.

As I pointed out it is possible that the date inside your guitar is earlier than the 1994 date that the serial number would suggest.

I hope I'm making myself clear!

Sincerely,
Hans Moust

Yes! Thanks for the info Hans!
The date stamped on the beveled edge is “Sep 16 1992” or just 92, I already put it back in the case lol.
This guitar sat in a music shop in Utah for 27 years. It is excellent shape, not a scratch or ding anywhere.
Upon receiving it I took it straight to Mark Erlewine in Austin TX for setup. Didn’t think he was going to give it back!

An absolute beauty!!!! And to see a guitar that looks like that after all of these years is why we take good care of them. Good to see another Texas boy here. Welcome Tom.

No, it’s been several weeks but I think it was a shop in Provo. It was one of those consignment companies.

Hi Tom! Welcome to LTG! That's quite the introduction...

I've been keeping a spreadsheet of some of Guild's "top shelf" dreadnaughts that I have seen for sale over the last ten years or so, including D-100s. As it turns out, I had/have your guitar in my spreadsheet, and the last time it appeared for sale on my radar was a Reverb ad posted by "Bill's Attic" in Eagle Cr Oregon. I think this was late last year (2022), but when I updated my spreadsheet today, I wrote over the previous date with this month's date. Being originally from Portland, Oregon with pioneer-era family connections near Eagle Cr, I remember the ad being from Oregon. Now I'm in Salt lake City... wish I had known there was a D-100 so close by, would have liked to try it out!

Enjoy!
