Bit of a long shot I know, but I'm just curious on the off chance that someone here might have played both of these and could offer a comparison?

As per my other thread, I was originally looking at a used D4 which is at the top end of my budget, but then stumbled on the D-240E which looks to be a direct homage to the old archbacks, and might just scratch my D4 itch at a third of the price.

I'm sadly unable to play either of them in the flesh, but going off videos the D-240E seems to offer the signature guild sound and looks great value for money. I also realise that it's probably not a fair comparison due to fact that D4's will have aged wood of around 30 years. BUT, they are both entry level models, so...

How close do you think it would come to a D4?

P.S. I have considered the D-140, but I'm not a fan of high gloss finish guitars.

As the happy owner of an OM240e, I'm sure that the D240e is a satisfying instrument. But, as the owner of a D25 as well as the OM240e, I'm reasonably sure that the D240e would not compare favorably to a good D4. Whether the comparative cost reduction is worth the tradeoff in quality is up to you, I think. And I would not criticize either decision. But I do think that, if you go for the D240e, you'll always find yourself wondering.

If you're not in a huge hurry Guitar Center will have one occasionally for under $400. That being said last time I looked they had three for over $600. Too much.

I had a great D4 but I scored a great deal on a new D40 so off it went.

Crazy(good) prices over there. I'm in the UK so will have to pay quite a bit more if I want to get my hands on a good condition D4.

The MIC Guilds get the job done, guess it depends how fast you want a new-to-you guitar in your hands. I’d probably lean towards the D4

Different guitars and different string counts, but I have an F112 and a D2612 CE. When I got the import over a year ago I did a YouTube video A-Bing them and the general consensus was they both sound good acoustically and plugged in. You can search for threads started by me if you want.
To me the F112 is the better sounding instrument, but it's close. I use the import with my band and it works great with a rock group, better than the F112 in that function.
I think you'd be happy with either, but the D4 would have an edge (though not three times better). Also a new instrument will go years without needing TLC and a limited lifetime warranty.
Good luck whichever way you go.

You will never get a three times better guitar for three times the price, but most people hear a difference and many are willing to pay for it. Play the three times the price guitar, and a guitar three times that and you will get an audible, but much less difference for a whole lot of money many are unwilling or unable to pay. Such is the world of guitar. I just went from $2200 used to $5k used and am ecstatic to have done so. Not many guitars, and I have played a bunch, would have had me buying. I paid a significant price in trading three nice instruments and a bunch of cash for the privilege. Not one regret. I've never had a regret buying better instruments.
