I just purchased a D-25 25th Anniversary Acoustic Guitar. I purchased off Reverb and regrettably didn’t do my research until after the guitar was in my possession. The guitar was listed as a 1983 but after some research here I understand now that the guitar was built in 1995. The listing and everything referred to this guitar as 41 years old. Thing is, now I’m feeling like I overpaid. I’m happy with the guitar overall besides a low E string buzz I believe a proper setup will remedy, but feel like I kind of got swindled. Model on the label say D25-NT and serial number is AD260402.

I would take it up with Reverb. The guitar was misrepresented. You should be able to get a refund.

Unless you terribly overpaid based upon an assumed build date, and if it sounds good to you why would you want to do that? I have one as well and personally think it's a pretty nice sounding Guild.

I'd first take it up with the seller. Don't be accusatory as you may be able to keep the guitar and negotiate getting some of your money refunded. HERE is the guitar on reverb, and yeah, $1,200 is overpriced for a D25, even if it has "25th Anniversary" printed on the headstock.

Wait a minute... Make sure you can confirm whatever it is you're claiming about the guitar. Others on this site can do that, but I cannot. As I mentioned, it does have "25th Anniversary" printed on the headstock. I don't know if that's "forged" or not. The serial number is as you say. Some of our Guild experts here can chime in and explain what's going on. I'd be interested in hearing about that, too!

The D25 was introduced in 1968. 25th anniversary of that would be 1993. I’d bet your guitar is a ‘93 and the seller was mistaken.

It’s hard for me to say what’s appropriate. Yes, always do research before you buy. Oftentimes I see folks ask about things after the fact and that never goes good.

Seems to me, on one hand, there should only be one year an anniversary model was made(with Guild and this particular model has been discussed a bit) so I guess if you wanted a 25th anniversary, you got a 25th anniversary, even though the year was misrepresented.

However if what you wanted was a 1983 D25 then you would have a case with the seller/reverb that you didn’t get what you wanted.

I want to clarify a little, I’m not mad at the seller right now. They’ve been great through the buying process. I also have not brought up my concerns with them yet since I wanted to get a little more info first. I did negotiate the original price down and did not pay the full $1,200 asking price.

There really wasn’t one defining piece of this guitar that pushed me over to buying it. It was really a culmination of things. I really wanted a D-25 and I got a D-25. So that’s where I’m conflicted. On one hand I’m glad I got an old d25 but on the other it’s not a 41 year old guitar like it was marketed as.

Also on the Guild website the Serial number says this is a D26 built in 1995. But the label does say D-25NT. There’s just so many different interesting aspects of this piece that doesn’t seem to have a clear cut explanation for.

If you got it for $1K or under, that's a good price. Not a steal or anything, but fair!! What I've not heard yet is how you like the guitar. How does it sound? Do you like playing it? I understand that some details matter a bit, but mostly is it a great guitar and you love to play it? Those are the questions I'd be asking myself.....

I just rechecked reverb sold listings. Contrary to what I previously said about price, quite a few (25 actually) D25's sold for $1,000 and above over the past several months.

There are two different versions of the D25 "25th Anniversary" The first came out in 1993 (the proper 25th anniversary of D25 production), and can be seen here. While it has roughly the same headstock as the 1995 model that you bought, it is a different guitar, with different serial numbers.

The 1995 version like yours is basically identical to the special edition D26 that Guild made for Guitar Center, and the two models were definitely build concurrently. The D25 "25th Anniversary" that I owned (now living with @richardp69) had the same numbering matrix, and in fact was four serial numbers away from my D26.

Both of them were the best D25 variants I've ever played, so you most likely got a good one. Here is member @GGJaguar's take on his.

Welcome to LTG.

We'd have to see it to give you any feel for whether you overpaid or not, and since you did not consult with us before the sale, it's kind of pointless now.

Having said that, $1K seems like a fair price, barring any real problems with the guitar.

It sounds like the seller was ignorant, probably not deceitful.

Best wishes. And have a close look at the threads Sandy mentioned above. We've discussed these guitars quite a lot in recent months. Any questions, pipe up.

After reading through some of these responses and threads I feel a lot better. I love the guitar and it sounds great so I probably won’t even say anything to the seller about the posting discrepancy. I appreciate everyone’s input, glad to be apart LTG now!

Welcome to LTG and congrats on that nice D-25 Anv (aka D-26)! Glad you decided to keep it. That model is unique among the D-25 types since it has scalloped bracing. Post well and post often. :)

Every guitar forum is flooded with "that price is outrageous" threads. It is a whole new world and very dependent on the guitar and where it falls in the marketplace. My neighborhood has been the hottest market in the last few years because it is the most affordable. But a million will not buy a house here. It is what it is. Guilds are remaining the bargain they always were, but more people are looking to buy not so expensive guitars, so the old all day long $800-1000 has gone up. In a world where 70s D 18s needing neck resets are going for $2k, getting one and fixing it will cost you $3k. In this world $1200 seems like a bargain.
